As an avid sports fan, I was fortunate enough to attend the opening match of major cricket at the newly converted Grand Prairie Stadium. Having previously served as a baseball stadium, the transformation into a beautiful cricket venue was truly remarkable. The stadium's adaptation to the game of cricket was seamless, and it provided an excellent setting for the thrilling encounter between Texas and LA.

[TLDR: We're glad we went! But parking is managed very poorly.] We went on the 3rd day of the first cricket season, and it sure had a poor start with the parking situation. We arrived in the parking line at 7:05 for a 7:30 match, figuring that since it was a small stadium, we'd have plenty of time to get in. However, our lane was merging with another lane into the parking lot, while the lane next to us merged into 3 lanes. There was no one directing traffic. Then when it came time to pay, accepting credit cards through the window meant even more idling. And this is all while the "Free Parking" signs from the baseball days are still up. About 10 cars after us, they stopped letting cars into our parking lot and fed them somewhere else, so we possibly had the longest wait time of anyone with a car. There is plenty of parking, so it was surprising that it was managed so badly. And being in the mid-cities of course there's no public transport option. There was a variety of snacks and drinks available (but nothing frozen - in 105 degree weather, the option of ice in a partially-full mango lassi would have been appreciated, or some ice cream). We might have purchased food if we knew more about the options available - "Indian snacks" listed on the menu isn't very specific. If you want to eat something like dinner, expect to pay about $30 for food and drink at the regular food stands. I brought an empty water bottle to fill up, but didn't see a place to fill it.Our seats were in the back row and we had to ask people to move from them, and then one of them proceeded to stand in front of me for the next 20 minutes. Otherwise the experience was mostly very enjoyable. The pace is similar to baseball, but without the need to have all those time fillers like mascots running around. It was nice to feel like we were away from the city and experiencing something that other people really enjoyed, as we didn't know much about how cricket worked. They do have the Cricket 101 guides as promised, but you have to ask for them (they're in boxes under the promotional table), which we didn't figure out until we were leaving. But we found a wonderful woman from South Africa who worked with MLC who was very helpful and eager to answer any questions we had. I wish we could have stayed and talked with her longer. This is probably the only professional sport I'll ever see where it's affordable to see players up close and in person instead of watching on a screen. We were in section 105, and next time I'd choose seats further from the main entrance at 104/105, as it would likely feel less crowded. I suspect that many of the men crowding around our seats either had seats in the sunset-facing east side, or wanted to be on tv as the cameras were concentrated on our sections. At our game they were handing out whistles, and we were very thankful to have brought earplugs. It was great to try something new and support cricket in the US, and it wasn't nearly as miserably hot as we expected with a nice breeze at 8pm. There is a very strict bag policy on the website, but we weren't sure how much that was being enforced as people had backpacks in line. Try to carpool so you can get out and walk if you get stuck in a parking line...
