Perfectly imperfect! This trail and bike park was a welcome surprise in Grand Rapids and definitely worth a visit! In fact, I'll be back!
I happened to meet Michael, a trail boss and longtime volunteer at GRBP. He shared cool historical facts about the space, as well as his passion for building trails with options for the experienced and newer riders alike. So, the trail, bike park, dirt jumps, and pump track really offer something for all riding styles.
If you like unique features, there are quite a few skinnies and drops built with massive steel girders. On the other side, there are also lots of rollers, little pops and hops, as well as cool log jumps and creek gap.
I noticed a couple reviews complained about the location. Regardless of where a trail is, I'd never leave things out in my vehicle and I would never let my kids ride alone ... Common sense in both cases.
While riding at GRBP I saw fellow riders, parents and kids riding, parents and kids running RC cars, people playing fetch with their dogs, and volunteers working on the trails. And, everything is in solid shape ... What I would expect on a mountain bike trail, at a dirt park, and a pump track.
Thanks for the cool space...
Read moreWe went here with my cousins after seeing photos from a couple of months and years ago and to our disappointment, this place looked like it was overrun and abandoned. There were several trash piles that smelled like there were feces and condom wrappers and needles popping up here and there (did not post pictures as they were inappropriate).
Looked like the grass wasn't cut in months and the jumps looked like they were started to fall apart a little bit. Fortunately, the pump track looked like it was still in good shape and the trails were nice. Would be far better if there were big signs for directions that weren't sprayed over with graffiti.
Overall, be careful if you are taking young kids there. Looked super shady with people just randomly emerging from the trail areas as well. Would be a wonderful place for the community had it...
Read moreWhile I love the feature packed area and the nicely built jump line, there tends to be kids on pit bikes which have gas motors riding around on there, told the few I ran into while riding with kids to leave or I'd have to call the sheriff since they weren't being cautious of other people or curtious. They had to have been raised correctly because as I gave them that "dad glare" they started them up and took off out of there. Also they had no helmets and that is exactly what's going to make these free places disappear, kid gets hurt even with signs up, parents think they have the right to sue, which they don't at that point and everyone loses at the end of the day. Also I wish the cops would kick out the homeless camps back by the river on the trail as they are not treating it well and again, going to make the area get...
