The C.M Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana, is a must-visit for art lovers and history buffs alike. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of famed Western artist, Charles Marion Russell, also known as C.M Russell. Russell's art captures the spirit of the American West and its people in a way that is both authentic and romanticized.

The museum is home to an extensive collection of Russell's paintings, sculptures, and personal artifacts. The exhibits are beautifully curated, and visitors can get a sense of Russell's life and creative process as they wander through the galleries. The museum also houses a research library, archives, and a studio where Russell worked.

What I appreciated most about the museum was how it contextualized Russell's art within the larger historical and cultural landscape of the American West. The museum's exhibits provide insights into the lives of the indigenous peoples, cowboys, and settlers who inhabited the West during Russell's time. The museum also explores the impact of industrialization, technology, and changing social norms on the West's landscapes and communities.

The museum's staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and they offer guided tours, educational programs, and workshops for visitors of all ages. I particularly enjoyed the museum's interactive exhibits, which allowed me to engage with the art and history in new and exciting ways.

Overall, the C.M Russell Museum is a fantastic destination for anyone interested in Western art, history, or culture. The museum's collection is impressive, and the exhibits are engaging and informative. I highly recommend a visit to this gem of a museum in the...

If you find yourself in Great Falls, Montana, a visit to the C.M. Russell Museum is an absolute must. This beautiful museum exceeded my expectations with its thoughtfully curated collection that showcases not only the art of Charles Marion Russell—a cowboy turned renowned artist—but also the rich history of the region.

I spent a delightful two hours wandering through the exhibits on a quiet weekday, where I enjoyed the spacious layout that made viewing each piece a breeze. The museum offers a fantastic display of Russell’s works, alongside fascinating insights into his life, friendships, and the Wild West he portrayed so vividly. The museum is also home to Russell’s well-preserved studio and cabin, located just behind the main building. These spaces provide a deeply personal glimpse into the life of the artist, adding a unique layer to the experience.

The informational plaques beside each artwork were thorough and engaging, enhancing my understanding of both Russell’s artistic journey and the native art and memorabilia that are significantly represented in the collection. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop before you leave! It features a wonderful selection of items that celebrate the local culture and art.

I refrained from sharing too many pictures to preserve the surprise for future visitors, but trust me, this museum is definitely worth your time.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a history buff, the C.M. Russell Museum will leave you inspired and...

Great place to learn some heritage of Great Falls. The museum has art pieces coming and going all the time so visit back a few times a year to see what is new. The tour for the school kids is the best field trip they get to go on for the year! The outside house is only open during the summer months so plan your trip around that. There are a ton of original works you get to see in first person. This museum is a first class place as you get to see it up close and personal no ropes and glass you have to look through. The tour guides are very informative as they know a lot of details others would walk right past. There is so much art that you could spend days so plan for at least one full day to take it all in and not be rushed. It is fun to see and hear the kids talk about what they are seeing as they travel back in time looking at the works of art by Charles m Russel! It is also a great way to see the old west in a raw unbiased way as c m Russel saw it and heard about it. I want to personally thank the museum for offering such a wonderful experience and we will be back often to help support such a big part of...

1st time here, but rest assured next time in GF, we will be back. We knew it was going to be special when we arrived in the parking lot at 10:45 am. on a Saturday morning, and 6 more cars came in quick succession behind us. Also, there is a sign that says, "No saving seats." We ordered the 3 meats and 3 sides, and the food did not disappoint! We had brisket, burnt ends, and turkey. Sides were mac and cheese, beans, and coleslaw. Great portions, and all was so rich and delicious! Lots of yummy bbq sauces to choose from at the table. Highly Recommend!! Tips: The restaurant is quaint so arrive early if you want ensure a table. If you don't, you will be super fortunate not to have to take your order to go. There was no break in the stream of people in line when we were there.

So you like Western art and history? This museum is dedicated to Russell, probably the most famous Western style artist of all time. Russell would live among the Cowboys and the Indians. He would learn their ways and to put it in terms we can grasp "like a National Geographic Photographer that captures life in remote villages," Russell used his paint brush to capture the ancient wild west. Extraordinary detail, brilliant use of color enraged in the roughness of the times. Looking at his art, one really gets a sense of what it was like to live in back then, in the unsettled west. Of course too, there is a bit of romanticism in his paintings, one cannot come away without an understanding of Russell's appreciation for the world he so engrossed himself in.
