Place is nice; people ruin it (and by "it" I mean PROPOSALS)
First off, this is a War Memorial. I don't know when random women decided that their ego is more important than that.
Around 7 pm on a Tuesday, my fiancé (boyfriend at the time) & I decided to stop and watch the boat Regatta on the way home from a full day of work. We had parked near the south side of the building in the back lot, and had decided to drive our (clean) work vehicle. After spending about 30 minutes watching the sailboats, my fiancé & I decided to walk down the boardwalk along the water. At this point, he was planning on proposing. I had absolutely no idea as it seemed like just another walk at the War Memorial; we had actually just ran into a couple we encounter quite often. Suddenly, a woman who, had rented the upper deck (50 + yards away at the main home) decided to walk across the grass and nearly approach us. I was assuming it was to congratulate us or introduce herself. I was VERY wrong.
This irrate woman began yelling straight away "The police are on their way you have five minutes to leave!!!" And continued to follow us shouting "This is private property you do not belong here!!! The police have been called!!!!!"
As I should mention, my fiancé and I were NOT smoking (cigarettes nor marijuana). We were NOT being loud or rude to anyone. Just a couple walking along the boardwalk... and a man attempting to propose. Will surely be back. I just hope their human resources takes care...

I have hosted events in many venues—but the Grosse Pointe War Memorial exceeded all expectations. From the very first conversation, Nicole Holowaty, the Sales & Special Events Manager, demonstrated not only expertise but a remarkable level of empathy and care. She took the time to understand our bride’s vision and created a space that honored her late father’s military service in a truly beautiful, heartfelt way. It wasn’t just an event—it was a celebration steeped in love and legacy.
The day-of staff was equally outstanding. Joe S., Stephan M., DJ T, and our catering manager Mike G. were professional, gracious, and impressively in sync. With a guest list of 40 and a timeline that evolved throughout the day, they remained flexible, proactive, and kind—anticipating needs before we even voiced them. Every single person played a part in creating lasting memories for our bride and her guests.
Thank you to the War Memorial team for allowing us to share your stunning venue. It was a joy to spend a Sunday afternoon surrounded by such rich history and exceptional service. I can’t wait to return and discover even more of the magic this...
Read moreI had to post based solely the good laugh I had after reading the review below. My fiance and I had narrowed our venue choices down to two and ultimately decided to go with the war memorial not only because of how beautiful it is but also because their coordinators were much more responsive than our other choice, The Book Cadillac. Andrea and Alondra at the war memorial never took longer than an hour to either return a call or respond to an email while at the book cadillac I was promised an email with information and a call back to set up an appointment to come see the venue and available dates twice that never arrived until after I called a third time to let their event coordinator know that my fiance and I had taken it upon ourselves to come view the space at which point I got a call back, set up an appointment (two weeks out was their first available), then received an email an hour before we were supposed to arrive that they had to cancel last minute. After heading to the war memorial today for a second look and to sign our paperwork, I was even more impressed than I was the first time and cant wait to be...
