The process of planning your wedding can be a huge, daunting task, but everyone we worked with at The Barn at Gibbet Hill made it as easy as possible and put us at ease.
There were several planning meetings with Kathleen, where we worked out all the details and she was always willing to give her advice on things we were unsure of. They set us up in the online tool, AllSeated, to plug in the details of our guests, the floorplan, our guests meals, and it even lets you add notes about food allergies.
We wanted to keep things as simple as we could, and they never pushed us to do more than what we were comfortable with. We also had last minute changes to guests lists and seating arrangements and they were always quick to help and never made us feel bad for what I’m sure was additional work for them.
On the day of the wedding, we had Jodie as the bridal attendant who always made sure I had what I needed and then some. My only regret is that I didn’t get to spend MORE time with her! She helped me with everything, from taking my giant white fur cape from me while we were taking outdoor photos, to grabbing my purse out of the basement while we were eating dinner. I think she knew how concerned we were with making sure all of our guests were having a great time, and she frequently checked in with me to give me the feedback she’d been hearing throughout the day - it really helped to hear it from a neutral third party, rather than guests who feel obligated to tell you things are great when asked by the bride and groom themselves! She was amazing and you should count yourself lucky if you get to work with her on your wedding day, too.
All of the staff at The Barn was wonderful - they made sure we got to try all the apps we’d chosen for our cocktail hour, that we were comfortable, and that our guests were having a great time as well. They took the noted food allergies very seriously (as they should) and put our guests at ease with their willingness to accommodate requests and changes.
The Barn is gorgeous, and while you can certainly add additional decorations, we didn’t. We wanted to keep things simple and the space is so beautiful on its own, we didn’t feel like it needed anything extra. We chose to have their vintage ladders for our arbor, and our florist laid a large, beautiful eucalyptus runner across the top (which was then placed on our table for dinner). We provided a couple dozen white votive candles to add a little interest, but that was it. They lined our aisle for the ceremony with lovely lanterns, and then those were placed on the tables for dinner (along with the provided votive candles). It was great how many things they were able to repurpose from our ceremony for the reception.
We had our wedding on a cold February day, so the heated deck was the perfect space for our cocktail hour (a little over 50 people). Really the only “add on” we did was that we opted to add the white lounge furniture out on the deck, and I’m glad we did - it was used consistently throughout the night by our guests. The space was exactly what we wanted for our wedding day - spacious, beautiful, and full of character. I escaped to one of the loft areas a couple times through the night to take a break from all the hustle and bustle, and it was perfect - I got to take a breather, and I had an amazing view to look down on all the fun being had. Even without snow, the grounds were still beautiful with the rolling hills, pond, and...
Read moreIt’s hard to put into words just how amazing The Barn at Gibbet Hill is. We had the absolute pleasure of hosting our wedding at the barn on Oct 26. Everything went off without a hitch, and it’s all thanks to their incredible staff.
Katie worked with me for months on the logistics of our wedding. I had a LOT of questions, requests, changes I wanted to make, etc. Not only was she organized and responsive, she was also kind, upbeat, and genuinely cared about me and my now husband. She really knocked it out of the park with the day-of schedule - I honestly could go on and on, and can’t thank her enough. She also put in a lot of physical work the day-of to set up decor, light candles, etc - and I brought A LOT of stuff. What an absolute gem Katie is.
Emily and Jodi were there the day-of to ensure my husband and I were well-fed, on time with our schedule, and overall at ease. I felt instantly at home with both of them - such kind souls and hard workers. I can say the same about the whole staff at the barn, but Katie, Jodi, and Emily were right by our sides through it all.
Next, the food was amazing. Food is the most important thing to us and is the piece we’re always most critical of. My husband and I got to have each of the 7 hors d’eouvres we chose, and there wasn’t one that we didn’t love, but the chicken & waffles and truffle fries were my personal favorites. His favorite was the short rib & maple smoked grilled cheese and the scallop with bacon jam & mango hot sauce. The pork chop and chicken entreés were fabulous. We also had the halibut on our menu and the only constructive note I have for the whole night is that the halibut was pretty dry (I had a bite of my maid of honor’s) - but hey, I’m tough to please and I’m a huge foodie. Plus, halibut is tough to cook, I imagine even tougher to execute ~40 portions. No biggie on this front. The dessert was outstanding - cider doughnuts, pumpkin cheesecake bites (my favorite), and chocolate dipped strawberries sent everyone into a food coma. Or so we thought - the late night snacks were a hit, too, and everyone was able to make room for the black angus and chicken sliders, as well as poutine. Don’t get me started on the drinks at the bar - they were 10/10 fantastic and were not watered down in the slightest. Our guests RAVED and are still raving about the food and drink. Truly outstanding - best wedding food I’ve had (and I don’t think I’m being biased).
The venue itself was absolutely stunning and notes were carefully followed to execute our vision. Really, as you can tell, I can’t say enough positive things about The Barn, where I had the best day of my life. THANK YOU for making our...
Read moreThe Barn at Gibbet Hill was an incredible venue to get married in. They went above and beyond every step of the way. It was very clear that the entire staff truly wanted to make our night as memorable as possible. Going into the process, we weren’t worried about much from Gibbet Hill, but we could never have expected the level of service we received. There really aren’t enough words to accurately describe how satisfied we were with this venue, but I do want to try and highlight a few aspects that were especially spectacular.
First, our day of planner Stefani was exactly what you need from an event planner. Our first meeting relieved so much stress during the planning process, because it was clear that Stefani had everything under control. She followed that up with excellent communication throughout the process and handled all of our back and forth on the guest list and menu items with no issue. We couldn’t have made our night a reality without her.
Secondly, the service from the rest of the staff was incredible. Our wedding party attendant, Jess specifically, was top tier. We never needed anything that evening, because she was already behind us with whatever it was we needed. Additionally, we had to move the ceremony inside last minute due to the weather, and the crew at Gibbet Hill handled it with so much efficiency and discretion our guests had no idea there was a last-minute change happening. After all the dust settled, I think we decided that the inside ceremony might have been even better that way!
Lastly, and as important as anything else for us, the food lived up to every bit of the hype. One of the most common compliments we got from our guests was it was the best food they’d every had at a wedding. Food was incredibly important to us, and I would say we have very high standards when it comes to our meals. The chef and the rest of the kitchen staff surpassed those already high standards at every stage, hors d’oeuvres to dessert. I’m confident I’ll never enjoy another wedding meal in my future, because I will forever be comparing it to the one we had at Gibbet Hill....
