Read moreThe beach itself is beautiful. Very crystal clear clean . Whoever cleans the beach and the park cleans it very well.
There are a few cons. The jet skis and the boats are too close to people trying to swim and too close to children. I wish people on jet skis weren't driving so close to people on the shore and there was more regulation. The same with the boats. And even though I love dogs. I absolutely love dogs. I wish it was more regulation as far as them being on the beach. Because people don't clean up after their dogs. So there's piles of dog poo and pee all over the place. Or today I just seen someone cover up their dogs poo with sand. So hopefully no one steps in it. But I'm sure someone will. It's pretty close to the shore. A couple years ago there was more regulation and people from the state park actually patrolling in cars making sure people were doing what they supposed to do. But it doesn't seem as regulated as it used to be. You also have to walk quite a distance if you want to be away from people who are not playing loud music. But then you have to trade off of being around more people with more boats and jet skis.
It used to be a quieter secluded Beach. Not tons of noise. But now the entire Beach is littered with boats and jet skis and it's hard to find a place where you can actually enjoy the beach...
Read moreWhat a wonderful park!! The beaches are beautiful and both have their individual perks -- East Beach is more shallow and perfect for children who are learning to swim and enjoy the ocean, and has a lovely view of a suspension bridge nearby! North Beach is huge and expansive with lots of ocean life and deeper, clearer waters. Plenty of space to relax on the beach, play in the water, or interact with local sea life.
The historical section was lovely as well, we enjoyed walking through the fort and reading the plaques as well as looking at the provided images and touching the huge cannons in the area. Overall, a very nice learning experience for those who enjoy history!
There is a LOT of wildlife at Fort DeSoto, especially avians! We were able to get up close and personal with several bird species, had a school of stingrays swim around us in the ocean, and found many many live sea dollars! If you're a lover of nature, this is a great spot to experience much of the wildlife Florida has to offer.
If you have a chance to visit, its worth the time spent and the small parking fee! Ask for a map at the entrance and enjoy a day of exploring and beaching -- there's a gift shop as well, if you'd like to take home a memento from what will surely be a wonderful day at...
