I've lived in the this location for a few years now, and I'm trying to think of some positive things to mention about this place. Aside from the great location the towers are on, this place is a total mess and fosters an unwelcoming atmosphere. I can live with the outdated amenities and the new unruly recurring fees that pop up every now and then. I can live with the high "maintenance fees" that don't get put back into maintaining anything in the buildings. But I can't live with the hostile environment the management of this building endorses.
The buildings have many groups, associations and boards that get away with harassing the residents simply because they've "been here longer". They act on personal decisions that are not in the best interest of the residents. Harassments and racisms runs in the old and cracked corridors of the buildings. Fights erupts every now and then in the "spa", which supposedly is a place to relax that includes a lounge and a library. Older residents verbally assaulting new residents is a norm here. Ethnical insults are wide spread. It has gotten so bad to the point where it's not safe for minors anymore. But don't you dare report them. If you take the issues to the management office you're given a warning because you were a victim and/or "talked back" to the assaulter. Nothing is done to the older residents who cause troubles as the atmosphere is running on seniority. It makes you feel you're living in a frat house in college.
If you're a decent person looking for a mellow and relaxing place to live then avoid this mess of buildings and management. It's not worth all the money on underserved and overrated apartments. There are lots of nearby places to check that offer similar services and views of Manhattan.
Oh, and it's not very uncommon for people to smoke weed/pot in common and indoor places. Just a heads up if it's not your...

The apartments: depending on the landlord you could have a renovated or non renovated unit. Most units are old, wooden floor, and they expect you to buy carpets which is extra.
Parking: is available at an extra charge of 120 not assigned, and 170 or so for assigned parking. Or you can park outside which is tedious and crazy after 5 PM, everyday including weekends.
Amenities: Gas, Electricity, water is included in the rent. Laundry usually busy on tower 2 due to a lady that apparently runs a laundry business inside the apartments which make it very inconvenient to go and wash your clothes, that is unless you live in one of the floors that has a small laundry room or you go very early in the morning or late at night.
Building amenities: I would say the amenities in the building are very convenient and you can make good use of it if you work from home if not, unless you are very organized with your time you will not even see the gym nor the pool nor the jacuzzi. Have an inside pharmacy with liquor inside and small bodega, very convenient. Plus the building lobby staff are very polite people.
Location: it is a convenient location, usually they sell you the idea that the bus passes every 2 min, that is certainly not true (usually if you are a daily commuter you can wait up to 15 min depending the time). There are options of course, you can take any bus that passes there without any issue to reach to PABT and vice versa this includes only the buses (168, 128, 166 & 165). A lot more options than most of the buses routes arround.
Price: they go between 1900 - 2300$ for 1 to 1.5 bedroom apartments, depending the apartment and the landlord. 1900 it's an ok deal but you have to plus the parking. You make the count. Again unless you work from home I dont see it worth it to live there.
That's my opinion.
Overall I'll...
Read moreI have been harassed by management ever since the day I moved in two years ago and I am an owner. I received no apology from the management or committees on so called suspected noise complaints coming from neighbors even after I proved them wrong.
Unfortunately the management does nothing here to protect NEW owners and the negative reviews are correct. You have to contend with residents who have lived here for many years and apparently they have no idea what's going on. Now that certain board members and others from FirstService Residential have resigned, I have seen a drastic change.
There are constant issues with equipment being out of order at the gym and the same thing with the washers and dryers lately. Fire alarms are a daily pleasure at the Galaxy so essentially you are screwed if you live on a higher floor meaning you have to sit for a while in the lobby until the fire department/maintenance checks everything out. There are constant water shutdowns as well as leaks within the building which I knew about before I moved in, but decided to take my chances. Apparently management is more concerned with harassing the owners vs. the renters/tenants as it seems like they have nothing better to do with their time. If they would address the main issues at hand then these problems would not exist in the first place.
Also, the comment about pot is accurate. I smell it constantly now throughout the Galaxy. It does not bother me, but apparently there are bigger things that the management has to contend with.
The woman who posted about people being "unhappy" because they are renters is WRONG. There are owners here that are being treated unfairly as well.
The only positive thing I can say about the Galaxy is the views and the concierge. Good luck if you consider...
