IMPORTANT NOTICE - Sayen House is NOT handicapped accessible! While they offer a lift for wheelchair users, there are no staff available to operate it, or to assist you. If you choose to operate this yourself, unless you have someone available to open the door, you Will Get Stuck inside the lift with No help! A Happy Mother’s Day to Me! We have been going to the Azalea Festival every year ever since it first began. This year, I am in my wheelchair. We took the handicapped lift to get up to the Sayen house & were stuck inside the lift! We pushed the alarm button, & no one came! Luckily we were able to get the attention of other visitors to open the door for us. Once we got inside the Sayen house we were treated Terribly! We asked the staff where we could go to wait for our picture. We were directed to go stand outside on the stairs to wait in the line. We explained that I cannot stand or do the stairs. The lady nastily asked me how I got into the house if I couldn’t do the stairs, & I responded by saying through your handicapped lift. I do not think she even knew that they even had a lift! I sat down in one of their chairs to wait while my husband & son went to stand on the steps to wait in the picture line, & the staff told me I was not allowed to sit. I again explained that I could not stand, & they gave me a chair & made me sit in a corner near the bathroom line where I was trampled on by people trying to get to the bathroom. It was so bad that I called my husband & son out of the line because I just wanted to leave! I also was not offered a Mother’s Day flower, or a gift bag that they were handing out to Everyone else, but me! After being treated so badly, I can honestly say that I will never return here again! It’s ashame that our family tradition is ruined by inconsiderate, uneducated people who do not know how to treat people with...
Read moreSayen House and Gardens is a nice, though smaller in size, public park area with a free admittance, in Hamilton Township.
Sayen House and Gardens are accessed from Hughes Drive and are located between Edinburgh Rd (Old Trenton Rd) and Nottingham Way, closer to Nottingham Way. The parking is convenient, and there are slots always available (with the rare exceptions on the days of busy receptions).
The area is taken up by the park itself, and the Sayen House built exactly 110 years ago, in 1912 by one Frederick Sayen (1885–1981), a local businessman and rubber manufacturer. Being a devoted gardener and amateur horticulturist, he "purchased a 30-acre parcel of land where he built a bungalow-style home and surrounded it with plants and flowers acquired while he traveled the world. His collection includes species from China, Japan, and England, many of which are still flourishing today."
The Sayen House can be rented for various venues and is popular for wedding receptions. We attended one quite a few years ago. The inside offers an intimate and cozy environment, with a number of smaller rooms for socializing among guests.
Even though the park is best enjoyed during warmer months with its flourishing surroundings, its picturesque paths and trails, its romantic gazebos, quaint little ponds, complete with golden fish, wooden curved bridges and various fountains - all can be equally appreciated in both fall and spring, offering lots of beautiful photo ops. The Azalea Festival, held annually on Mother's Day, is not to be missed.
Restrooms and benches are located throughout the Sayen House and Garden grounds.
Ideal place for a family leisurely stroll, particularly for the nature lovers.
The admittance to the Sayen House and Gardens stops briefly before dusk, when the park...

As a professional wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing many love stories, but Sayen Gardens truly stands out as one of the most picturesque wedding venues in New Jersey. 🌿📸
This location offers an enchanting blend of natural beauty and romantic charm, making it an ideal setting for intimate weddings. The well-maintained gardens, scenic bridges, and the charming white gazebo create stunning backdrops for wedding portraits. The golden-hour lighting filtering through the trees adds a soft, dreamy glow, perfect for capturing timeless moments.
I recently photographed a beautiful micro-wedding here, and the experience was nothing short of magical. The couple’s portraits against the gardens, the heartfelt ceremony under the gazebo, and even their furry ring bearers made for incredible, storytelling images. 🐶💍
From a photographer’s standpoint: ✅ Diverse backgrounds – Bridges, pathways, water features, and vibrant greenery. ✅ Ample natural light – Perfect for golden hour and natural-looking portraits. ✅ Easy accessibility – Plenty of parking and walkable locations. ✅ Perfect for small & large weddings – Works beautifully for elopements or full ceremonies.
