One of my favorite places to visit in the area. Recent changes to the meadow area where there was once a walking path and beautuful natural growth has been removed and replaced with a cricket field. Sadly what was once open and available for the general public to use is now only usable by a handful of people playing a game that lacks popularity and interest. My fond memories of walking my pups and learning to mountain bike (before ready for the bigger trails) is now replaced with an area that has lost it's natural habitate and is littered with trash and bottles from those who use the newly created cricket field. Why not maintain the original walking path around the perimeter of the once meadow/ now cricket field? Why remove something people have used for decades? I suppose in time, if enough people begin to walk where the path once was, a natural path will form. By cutting down the meadow, the park is now forced to create pollenation areas and low mow sections to compensate for what they removed. Quite a shame that an area that was so peaceful and beautiful has been destroyed and replaced with noise and trash /liter. Still enjoy the beautiful trails and lake area as one the best in the...
Read moreThis has become one of our favorite places because it is a lot cheaper than a water park and not crowded, with a pleasant sandy beach and shaded picnic tables. There are pedal boats, volley ball nets and of course the Wibit, the water obstacle course. Your child will have to pass a swimming test in order to be allowed on-they have to swim to the dock and back in the deep water area of the lake. Green, they can swim in the shallows only, orange band, they can swim anywhere, no band, they can swim with an adult in the shallows. Staff are very friendly and it has a really nice atmosphere for all ages. The walk around the lake is lovely, though paddling around in the boat is a lot harder. The water is a bit brown from run off from the forest peat soil and is used by ducks and other wildlife but they keep it quiet clean. If you fancy the beach but don't want to drive hours to the Jersey Shore and be stuck in traffic, this is a great option from Memorial Day to Labor...
Read moreA true gem of Morris County. The trails are all fantastic and excellently maintained. Make sure you have an up to date map, as some are incorrectly marked. There are also some disused, unmarked trails that spur from the orange trail. Despite this, it is an excellent place for mountain biking. The connection to patriots path provides an excellent, 5 mile, relatively flat, ride over various surfaces right into Morristown through some beautiful scenery and past some historic sights. The picnic area is well used and maintained. Sunrise lake is a good area for parties or gatherings. All in all a very enjoyable day outing. Riding in from Morristown on patriots path, doing a loop in the park, and then continuing along patriots path to Dismal Harmony before returning to Morristown through the park provides a good 3+ hr ride with relaxing, exhilarating, and exhausting portions. Highly...
