I AM OBSESSED with Family Center!!! They are nice. Like SO SO nice. Helpful to the max in every department. Also, it is easy to talk to and all-around friendly. I prefer to support a small business, and oh my goodness, do they have the BEST most UNIQUE items.
From boots to bird feeders, pretty much every kind of animal food you'd need (farm animals to pets), they have tools, clothes, a section that reminds me of Home Depot (a CORPORATION) with all the nuts and bolts and ladders, paint, etc. There is an area where they sell lawn equipment, and they fix it, too.
We get our hay, soil, and all that from there. Also, super important when you live in a rural area is the medicine and supplies they sell. Our chickens get bumblefoot every spring, and they sell all the supplies so we can successfully do the procedure at home.
They sell coops, candy, soda pop, and toys. It's like an amazing, contemporary general store, but way better! Okay, so saving the best for last (at least for me) is all of the lawn decorations, home decor, gifts, KU, and Mizzou and Chiefs gear.
I'm not proud to say this, but it shows my dedication to the store, they had to shut off the lights and be like, sorry ma'am, we are closing early for the 4th of July.
It's a full-on experience. And when they get the baby chicks in the spring omg and I really SUPER OBSESSED. They get a far greater variety of chicks than Tractor Supply, which is a corporation anyway.
Whether you live along with the way or are merely driving through, you HAVE to stop at Family Center. It's just one of those kinds of places.
I got ALL of my Mother's Day presents from Family Center. I can't wait until Christmas!! They are very friendly to veterans and currently enlisted military, which means a lot to me. They sell military memorabilia, such as artillery holders, etc. My son loves that, and he has many of those pieces.
My baby got that huge stuffed chicken (named Chicken Leigh), and my son got a t-shirt, hat, and wrist-band combo for the Air Force, where he intends to go to the Academy. There is something here for everyone. I want to go...
Read moreI live 600 miles from the Family Center and have always loved visiting the store when I am in town. Today, I stopped in and saw a black felt hat I admired. I asked the clerk if they had a smaller size. She disappeared into the back, and returned promptly with a smaller hat. It fit perfectly, but it was totally covered in white dust. So I told her I would take it, but would she please brush it and get me a box to put it in for my travel home. She looked at me like I'd requested her kidney. Then she said she needed to call another employee. While I waited, she called someone else. After the call, she said the lady that worked that department was out, and I would need to return the next day. Surprised, I asked, "You're open on New Year's Day?" This was obviously another difficult question. She had to consult the employee's work schedule. Nope, they would be closed, I should return on Wednesday. Unfortunately, I told her I was returning home, I wanted the hat, but it needed brushing. No. Not her job. You won't brush the dust off this hat to make a sale? No. Nada. Not happening. But you can return on Wednesday.
If left without the hat, and a really unpleasant memory. Don't think I will ever spend anymore of my hard-earned money with a company that clearly doesn't want...
Read moreEdit: They emailed saying they wanted to make it right by giving me a $50 gift card. I thought it might be a bit awkward going in for it but figured it would be fine since they offered it to me and said it would be at the desk. I went in and asked about it. No one knew what I was talking about and they behaved pretty much the same as the first time I went in described below. I offered the email I was sent as an explanation and the manager reluctantly gave me the gift card. So yeah, it was pretty much the same experience both times, except I got a nice gift card out of it the second time. The person sending the email was friendly, but the people I actually interacted with at the store were a bit cold and indifferent.

I got a text saying "Here's Your $10 FC Cash to use on your next visit!" I went in to use it and they said we had to take a gift card and use that on a separate day. So we wound up paying for the items we picked out anyway. The receipt says $10 was added then removed from the gift card, but they told us the card had money on it. I guess we'll find out next time we try...
