We had such a great road trip to Hatch! We picked up 200 pounds of chili along with a bunch of spices. One of the highlights was meeting Michelle and Pete, the owners of a local store and farm who’ve been doing this since the 80s. They were so welcoming—they took us out to the fields, let us walk through the farm, and even pick and eat chili straight off the vine.We also learned something interesting: the farmers don’t actually own the land, only the crops, and that’s the way it’s always been.
They have been nice enough to invite us back up in October so we will be making another trip.

Read moreIf you go to Hatch for chiles of any size, shape, or type go to Grajeda farms. We bought some spices at the Hatch Chile Market location on Franklin and loved the place. After visiting every chile vedor shop in Hatch, we returned to Grajeda Farms going out of town on Hwy 26 (Hall St) to buy a bushel of green chiles and more spices. Did not even realize the two locations were connected until we got home and started looking at the labels on the spices. Both locations were our favorite vendors in all of Hatch. Read moreWe traveled to Hatch from Las Cruces to buy green chile. Very disappointed in the chile we bought was the size of jalapeños no meat on the green chile. We bought two kinds Sandia hot and Big Jim. The young man who roasted our green chile couldn’t tell the difference between the Chile’s we had bought. Neither could we neither was hot and Big Jim was tiny. I should have taken a look at the green chile before it was roasted I could have walked away. Gone to another stand to buy green chile.
