Had a birthday party there. 5 stars for the park. -1 for the lack of parking. -5 due to an employee named David that rolled up on a golf cart to fuss about my grandparents not parking entirely in the handicapped space. Then continuing to follow my 93 year old great grandmother as she was ushered to the car, fussing about policies and such. When I, the renter of the shelter, asked if there was something I can do to help, he proceeded to tell me about previous issues that have nothing to do with us, take up over 5 minutes of my time, AND TELL ME NOT TO GET IN A P*SSING MATCH WITH HIM!!! I brought up the issue to another employee working and they were very apologetic and helpful, so I added a couple stars for that. Apparently, they've had complaints on this employee before. It's 2022 guys... If you're stuck in the past, you don't belong in customer service. If the park is represented by employees that do not respect the families that spend their money there, why would I want to spend my...
Read morePark off Wendover Avenue. As you enter Gibson Park, Shelter 1 is on the left (with small playground). There is a baseball and soccer field here as well as bathrooms. Plenty of parking to accommodate all of this. To the left of the Shelter and baseball field is Flint Lock Trail that takes you to the Bicentennial Greenway.
Further down on the right is the Twin Pond lot with maybe 15 parking spots. The plethora of nature trails are accessible here. Twin Pond Trail is the initial trail that takes you to Long Rifle Trail and eventually other trails.
At the end of the main road is another athletic field, bathrooms, Shelter 2 and 3, another playground, and close access to the Bicentennial Greenway. This entire area is heavily shaded.
Fields, shelters, well maintained bathrooms, and a plethora of trail options make this a...
Read moreGreat place for long walks. This review is for those looking to cycle at the greenway. Cycling here isn't the best but, the greenway offers some good elevation gradient. There are a couple of areas, mostly near penny road, where the roots have led to significant cracks in the asphalt which can cause damage to some cycle tires. There's also a set of stairs you'd have to walk your bike on to reach the Piedmont environmental center. The stairs have a ramp to walk your bike on. The wooden bridges on the trail can get very slippery and I'd recommend dismounting your bikes. The place has car parking, a vending machine, restrooms (closed now due to pandemic) and a tool post at the entry to...
