Back in 2000-2001 a little video game store opened called the Game Zone off of Broadway and Hillsdale Avenue. I was a young boy in 6th or 7th grade looking for somewhere to buy and try the newest games for my Playstation 2, but despised the Blockbuster near Kings. This wonderful store offered me an opportunity to rent games and movies on my way home from George G. White Middle School. When I had the odd dollar to spend, I could buy too. Sadly I moved away to North Carolina leaving my beloved Game Zone behind.
I returned to New Jersey multiple times as I grew older. But I never made the time to visit Game Zone. Mostly because I was busy with family.
One day I arrive into Hillsdale via the Pascack Valley line, and have time to kill before my ride arrived. I eye my old friend, and decide to walk in, for old times sake.
What a change. And yet, it felt oddly comforting. It was my old friend, but new and improved. I spoke briefly with the owner as I eyed the selection of retro SNES games. The retro geek in me squealed at some of the prices and the incredible selection. I could feel my wallet escaping my pants. I was in trouble. I made a purchase and thanked the owner for his time.
After all of these years it felt good to revisit my old friend and see that the store is doing better than ever and staying strong. I eagerly await my next visit to my homeland to browse arguably one of the best game stores I...
Read moreThe GameZone is my go to for everything gaming and gaming related. I'm the girlfriend of the previous reviewer who got me the Nintendo 64 for Christmas, and he's also the one who introduced me to GZ... And he's inadvertently created a monster. I'm in GameZone at least once every 2 weeks or so, and I always say "I swear, I'm just going to look this time", but I always end up leaving with something. With the help of GameZone, my collection of N64 games has grown at an alarming rate since Christmas of 2015. The owner and staff are some of the nicest, most accommodating people I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. They are very knowledgable, and their prices are more than fair. The owner very clearly has a passion for games and loves what he's doing. They quite literally have everything, and if you really have your heart set on something that they don't have in stock, you can ask to be put on their wish list. I also kind of look at the store as a museum. They've got some really, REALLY cool stuff displayed around the store, which is absolutely not for sale, ranging from just plain neat to extremely hard to find items. They also host various tournaments, including the Pokémon TCG. I live in Rockland County, NY, and I happily make the drive out of my way into New Jersey to pop into GameZone, and I highly...
Read moreI've always respected what GameZone has done for Hillsdale's local residents and beyond. Especially the TCG collectors' community as a whole.
Today was a crazy day with the Pokémon's Shining Fates release... and I just have to say that everything was done the right way with the utmost professionalism.
It's all a testiment to management and how prepared they were to handle the madness (there was a line out the door 45+ mins prior to opening hours).
What means the most to me is that it's more important to the boss man to ensure that the true collectors are given a fair chance to purchase the products as opposed to allowing scalpers clean out his inventory.
Thank you again for everything! I can't wait to be back to support y'all more!
Best...
