Amazing museum halfway to Duluth from Minneapolis on I35 (MNDOT signs will point you to it which is helpful) Went on a slow day and was given a personal tour by a volunteer which was great especially since the volunteers are locals and are more than happy to answer any questions and talk about the region. Museum is much larger than I thought it was and was able to spend over an hour before I saw everything which was a very welcome surprise. Took as many pictures as I could but they don't really do the museum justice in showing how in depth and large it is. Also great prices in the gift shop. If your on I35 towards Duluth definitely check it out.

The Hinckley Fire Museum is an absolute treat. Driving interstate 35 there’s an official highway sign referencing. For years I’ve seen that sign without stopping. It’s amazing. $5 cover gets you into the gift shop and museum. The focal point of the museum is a short documentary about the fire which is dated but perfectly adds to the feel of the place. The person running the place was in full railroad attire and incredibly helpful and kind. Carl was great. The museum has a few artifacts of the era, some living quarters decorated for the time, and a great gift shop. If you’re going with a sense of adventure and charm you’ll be thrilled.

I volunteered here one summer when I was in high school. Its a great little road trip stop if you're traveling along Hwy 61 or I35.

There's a lot of info on the history of trade, the Native Americans of the area, the railroad, the Great Hinckley Fire, and logging back in the day. They even have a movie showing about the lifestyles and endeavors of the loggers.

There are many displays, including authentic period style bedrooms that explain customs back then, a room with a Wigwam featuring native culture, how the railroad operated and tons of artifacts that survived/melted in the fire.

Its really neat to pick up on some history of the area and kids really love to see things like the Wigwam, old logging equipment and the caboose. I'd recommend a visit if you're...
