Great playground with climbing structures for kids of all ages, including a small area with a big plastic tree that kids 4 and under can play in and around. There's also a small splash pad - it just shoots water straight up from a central spot, so not very extravagant, but it is nice.
There are also bathrooms! And a bunch of picnic tables near the big playground, as well as a few benches in pretty good spots. There's not a lot of shade, but there are some trees around. Also nearby walking trails in the woods if you continue walking up the road past the parking lot.
The only real problem I have with it is the lack of fences. The 4-and-under area is surrounded by fences, but has two big openings on each side, so if you have a runner there's no real way to pen them in. The splash pad has a fence around it and a big grassy area nearby with only one exit, which is pretty good. The rest of the area is totally unfenced, although it is mostly just the parking lot, park road, and woods nearby -- the park itself is nestled pretty far into a private area. (Although there is a creek with a waterfall over by the dog park, but that is pretty far away.) The highway is nearby, but way up high and not accessible at all. For most kids the lack of fencing probably isn't an issue, but if you have a runner or explorer you'll have to keep a close eye on them.
Overall it's a great playground. Definitely worth a visit and may just become your...
Read moreHolyoke is a horrible place to raise kids. However, this park makes the area that much nicer. They have sprinklers for the kids in the summer, picnic areas and plenty of parking and benches. It's a larger play area and old school wood.
Read moreWe were here to visit the dog park. The Mt Holyoke dog park is pretty typical for a dog park in a more metro area. It is small and fenced entirely. There are two young trees offering a limited bit of shade. It was plenty hot in the early afternoon. We were here in the middle of the day in the middle of the week and didn't see many other dogs. A woman did try to call my dog over to her and her children through the fence, poking her fingers through at him. Luckily he wasn't interested, as he doesn't care much for kids. It was a clean park but a bit worn and sparsely attended. LOTS of kids in the area as it is a rec park...
