So much history! Just as the sign states the Coast Guard Commander for the 14th district resides here. So it's very much maintained and looked after, but not accessible to the public. You can still see its beauty while walking along diamond head park trails as well as the trails along the beach.

Thank you for allowing us in and to experience such a historic landmark for both Oahu and the Coast Guard. Can't wait to see it in the evening (we were told it's still functional and lights...

Plaque will tell you historic significance of the lighthouse and a little about diamond head. If you have time you can hike down to the beach for better views or just walk along the side of the road and check out some other unique points of interest. Beware the US Coast guard does still use it so it’s not a museum or visitors spot like some other uninformed reviewers seem to think. If you actually read the signs it says the coast guard commander...

Trail Information ⬇️   Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail - 2.6 mile out & back trail within the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline with views of both Koko Crater and Diamond Head Crater, the historic red Makapu’u Lighthouse, & the southeastern coastline. Note: the trail is fully paved making it family-friendly.   Diamond Head (Lē‘ahi) Summit Trail - 1.8 mile out & back trail to the rim of the 300,000 year old crater with views of the southeastern coastline and Diamond Head Lighthouse. Note: Entry and parking reservations are required to enter Diamond Head State Monument.   Koko Crater Tramway Trail - 1.6 mile out & back trail up an old tram-track with panoramic views of Hanauma Bay & the eastern coastline. Note: this trail includes over 1,000 steps with 900 ft of elevation gain and little to no shade.   Ka’ena Point Coastal Trail - 2.5 mile out & back trail within Ka’ena State Park with views of rock coves, tide pools, & the northwestern coastline. Note: Ka’ena Point is accessible via two routes from both areas of the park: Mokule’ia and Wai’anae.  Is hiking on O’ahu on your bucket list?
