Was not blown away by this place. Overall it's a bit on the pricier side for basic food. You are paying for the ambiance which was just ok in my opinion. I specifically told our server, Starlyn, to please communicate to the chef to that we would like our two mahi entrees moist, not overcooked or dry (because I know sometimes restaurants do this), but when they came out, lo and behold, they were overcooked and so dry they were inedible (and that's saying something because I eat practically everything). My mom who also ordered the mahi and I were disappointed that both of our fish was dry. She is a cancer patient so she's especially sensitive to the dryness of food and couldn't eat much of it. We asked our server to please bring us more sauce. I knew she was busy but there wasn't even an acknowledgment of our dissatisfaction (especially since I had specifically requested the fish to not be overcooked in the beginning). The sauce that she brought didn't help because it was just too dry. I know she didn't cook the fish but I wonder if she even communicated that to the cook? Being a server myself I know that you need to express care, offer a solution, an apology...something. We felt brushed off. There was no followup on our dissatisfaction and we were billed for the full price of the meals we could barely eat. I took them home to attempt to "fix" the fish myself (cook it in to an omelette?) because why waste something you've paid for...
Other comments: Apparently the menu has been revised since Covid so certain things you may have had before might not be on it anymore just a heads up. I don't believe there was a kids men or if there was it was very basic/limited. Other members of my party enjoyed the mahi burger, and ahi poke. I would recommend the ahi poke if you're a poke fan, although the rice was sold separately I think? Weird. The ambience was ok. It's in an offbeat...
Read moreI have never been tempted to “dine and dash” until eating here. To say the service was poor is being kind. If you are not a local and known to the staff, be prepared to wait, get frustrated, and then wait some more while watching others get excellent service. I am not talking a few minutes waiting, I mean twenty to thirty minutes despite there being three waitresses and seven seated tables when we arrived! Then, after our meals were dropped off, we literally never saw our waitress again. We waited more than 45 minutes after finishing our meals AND stacking our own plates without our waitress ever coming within 20 feet of our table, anyone clearing our 24 inch by 24 inch “table,” or even being asked if we needed anything. We watched tables around us turn over, twice. We were not asked if we’d like another drink (we did!) or if we’d like desert (we did). We finally flagged down another server to ask for our bill. Then the server who finally brought the bill offered zero apology AND stood over me waiting to collect the bill. She was so close to me I thought she was trying to pick me up or something. It was bizarre and totally uncomfortable. This place may have been great once, but it’s a PITA to get to, smells of stale booze, and has indifferent service. What is sad is I really wanted to like the place and would normally have bought tourist stuff at their gift shop. I was so po’d at our treatment, it took every ounce of decency not to just walk out and stick them with the bill. All in, we sat almost three full hours for two rounds of drinks, one appetizer, and two meals. Then, wait till you get to the restrooms. If you weren’t already wondering if they ever cleaned the place, you’ll know for sure within two seconds of stepping in the restroom. Sad part is that I adore dive bars. This one is just an epic failure and not worth the effort...
Read moreFirst impression of this place: it was once a really cool tiki bar and the "place to be". It seems now like a hidden away restuarant that claims to be this "hidden gem" where famous TV shows have been filmed. While some of that may be true, it doesn't help that nothing in this bar had aged well...to include the staff. The interior obviously hasn't been updated in many years but it isnt the kind of cliche tacky decor in some restaurants, this I feel is just plain tacky. The bartender seems like a man who had been working at the place for years meaning he can treat customers like garbage. For example, when someone is waiting patiently at your bar while you finish working, instead of saying to another wait staff "figure out of this woman wants" right in front of me, ask me yourself. It's called hospitality. On to the food and drink. We ordered 2 margaritas, a mango and a lilikoi. The mango was pretty good but the lilikoi was really sweet. The sugared rim didn't help either. For starters, we ordered the Ahi Poke and Calamari. The Ahi Poke was served in a coconut bowl which was cute but the poke was just okay. The Ahi was cut very poorly, leaving the chewy, tendony cuts of the meat. The Calamari was good but there was very little flavor in the breading and the dipping sauce was just cocktail sauce. For our meal since we ate early or late (?), we were only given a bar menu with a choice of only 4 meal options. We both just choose a cheeseburger and a cheeseburger is a cheeseburger...at a tiki bar. Nothing note worry. The only redeeming part of this entire experience was the one server towards the ends of our meal who was so sweet and seemed to give us better service in our small incounters than our own server did. So thank you, we never got your name. 10/10 would not...
