Fantastic, fine time touring this large facility filled with awesome antique aircraft and autos. Attractively arranged with these items were other antiques of the day. World class exhibits spanning 100 years. Small settings dotted the museum with chairs in front of small TV sets running programs that gave details about the nearby displays.
If you know a little about the times, you're going to know a whole lot more when you are done. So very worthy of your time and money to enter. I'm sure you will be glad you visited. Gift shop is full of items that you know are chosen for the theme of the museum.
Cost is a small factor considering how much you gain. It's easily an all day field trip. Bring a sack lunch. Drinks are there in a vending machine where they have a lunch table you can use. Restrooms are available to wash up or use as needed.
Volunteers are wonderful. They roam around on their electric trikes and ask if you have any questions. Knowledge they have, you should ask. They were a blast to chat up, they came around one at a time. Enjoyed them all, five or so men on trikes in the big hangars. Then there were the women in the front who took our entry fee, also gave us a map of Hood River with places to eat as we had stopped in before lunch and worked up an appetite during our nearly two-hour tour.
Displays on the walls tell many stories of men at war and women who were part of the action as well. It's so big you need to allow at least two hours or you will be promising to come back. Parking lot is big. Outside of the place belies the awesome things awaiting inside for your viewing pleasure. For sure, tis a great place to spend a rainy day.
Friendly awaits inside. History entertains the imagination, as always when pondering the power of the people who lived before us. We hurried through, relying on our photos to help us study the details. We're already making a...
Read moreVery nice place to visit. We really enjoyed seeing so much planes, cars and a OTHER items and occasional videos to watch in the hangers. I really liked that most ALL the pieces and cars and such are in exquisit PRESTINE condition. _ like WOW!!!!. A few Things I wasn't very happy about; 1. that they are quite PRICEY. $25 for adults, like $21 for military or active duty people or seniors and 18_ under is like $12. EACH. no family mates, no EBT discounts. Nothing! For the amount they charge, i would THINK that there shouldn't have to be big old drip pans under all the equipment. ESPECIALLY with some of them have obviously been leaking pretty bad. Thry Charge so much, but cant at a bare minimum clean the drip pans so there isn't so much contaminant around. It does detract from the wow of the pieces. While looking around, the " volunteer" guys in the scooters kept coming around. OK_ they already tell you "if you need something or have a question to flag them down and they will be happy to answer any queations..." I DONT have any questions you don't have to b_line for me every time you go down the rows and point out something or make some comment about a piece. YES it IS very cool!! BUT- unless I (ASK) for info or such, i dont need someone tailgating me_ like you have to check on us like were DOING or "TOUCHING" something. It seriously takes a negative toll on the experience. At the same time; at one point my children were really Awing over an electric car from like over 100 years ago; the volunteer came over and pulled back the chain did a bit of describing and let my kids get a much closer view of the car interior, that was...
Read moreJust as others have indicated in their reviews this is a stunning collection of aircraft vehicles and automobiles. We probably spent about an hour and a half slowly walking around and you can feel your camera with pictures of one of a kind and unique aircraft. Hats off to the maintainers that keep these babies looking good. I took pictures just to research some of the unusual aircraft that I've never seen before. According to Larry one of the dockets driving around on his speedy little cart they actually do get to take some of the automobiles out on occasion for cruising. If you plan on visiting and taking a lot of high quality photograph please note the lighting in the hangers is a little less than desirable. So plan accordingly. It's easy to get pictures of everything and get close to everything but the indirect overhead lighting from the upper areas has a tendency to throw off your light meter in your phone camera for sure. I discussed it with two people in the museum and they are aware of it. They are in the process of building a brand new hanger and just broke ground recently for that. I expect a new modern facility will have excellent lighting. This certainly does not distract from the museum and there certainly is a variety of things to look at. I would almost consider calling this place the Henry Ford of the West Coast. Obviously the focus is on aircraft some world war II vehicles and automotive as well as motorcycles. You won't be disappointed I know I wasn't I'm glad I got a chance...
