This was the first time I've been to a butcher's shop and it was a great experience.
Outside, the building reminds me of an wooden smoke-house stores along the Texas interstates. The kind of place that makes you feel like they know what they're doing and that they do.
Inside, I was expecting a metallic smell of blood but instead, you're faced with a surprisingly clean, meaty smell. In front, you'll be confronted with small aisles and a few refrigeration units that may delay you to your meaty goodness. They're stocked with most of your commonly needed cooking items, just in case you forget something. Along the back wall is where the action is at, the butcher's section. The meat display stretches along the width of the store with displays upon displays of steaks, sausages, roasts, ground, marinated meats, short ribs, etc. Behind those display are about a dozen of butchers hard at work. Among the butchers practicing their craft and the oodles of meat displayed in front of you, you might miss the Ticket Dispenser for the Take-a-Number line system in the middle of all the displays. If your lucky like I was, you'll have a meat-monger(in the good way) waiting for you at the ticket dispenser.
Service was prompt, helpful, and great overall. The meat-monger assisted us on the cuts we looking for and suggested which pieces to get depending on our taste. My group(4) was able to pick each cut themselves and also was assisted with their other meat needs by the same monger. No need to talk to different people for different displays.
After our purchase, we brought home our meats to inspect them. They had a clean meaty smell and visually looked normal. The meat was also clean to the touch, no slimy or stickiness to the meat. After cooking some steaks via sous vide, the smell was clean and the taste was amazing.
The price was comparable with big brand stores. Although B&W was a bit of a drive for me, I will continue to go to this butchers for all my...

Read moreToday was my first and last time here. My usual meat market is on the southside but since this store is down the street from my house and I only needed chicken breast I decided to give it a shot. Once I got to the back I was about to take a number and then a lady with dark pinned up hair put her hand over the ticket dispenser and said she would help me. I thought this was a bit rude but I brushed it off. I told her I wanted 10lbs of chicken breast split in half. I assume she went to the back to tell someone to prepare the order because I saw her come back up to the front and help more customers. I went to look at other items in the store. When I got back to the meat area she was standing there holding the order slightly above her shoulder she saw me but didn't say anything, just stood there holding the chicken. Since I saw her help other people I wasn't sure if the order was mine or not, after standing there for a few seconds and no one else saying anything I figured it must've been my order so I walked up to her to ask. As I was on my way over she slammed the chicken on the top of the meat display thingy and stood to the side. I asked if that was my order and she said yes. She was really rude, so much so that my daughters brought up her attitude to me once we got in the car. I won't be back. I don't like spending money where I'm not appreciated especially when there are so many other options to choose from. Next time I'll just make the drive to...
