Iāve been living in Houston for about three years now, and Blackwolf CrossFit is the first gym where Iāve truly felt a sense of community. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and supported. This gym gets me excited to show up, push myself, and grow as an athlete, all while actually having fun. If youāre looking for a place to challenge yourself, stay consistent, and be surrounded by good people, Blackwolf is the gym for you.
One of the best parts of the experience is the coaching staff.
Nicole led my very first class, and I was immediately impressed by her structure and attention to detail. Sheās a highly experienced CrossFit coach who prioritizes technique, safety, and continuous improvement. Whether youāre brand new or a seasoned athlete, youāll walk away from her class better than when you came in. Her goal is to make sure everyone is progressing, and she delivers on that every time.
Ricardo brings the energy and good vibes to every class. He also organizes community events at the gym, and Iāll never forget how he personally invited me to the Friendsgiving when I was still new. That gesture made me feel instantly included. His workouts are high-energy, even on days when youāre not feeling your best, and somehow you always leave in a better mood than when you arrived.
Valerie, Drew, and Lakin are the newer coaches, but youād never guess it. Theyāve been trained by the best and bring the same Blackwolf energy. Valerie was the first of the newer coaches I met. Sheās an amazing athlete, and even before I attended one of her classes, she took time out of her own workouts to help me with movements. Sheās approachable, encouraging, and has helped me build confidence in myself. Because of her, Iāve pushed past self-doubt, tried new skills, and even joined the Blackwolf Open, which has been one of the highlights of my time here.
Drew sometimes teams up with Val, and together theyāre a total vibe. Drew leads by example. Heās a skilled athlete and a supportive coach who makes even the most advanced movements feel achievable. He keeps things fun, upbeat, and challenging in the best way. Before their classes, you wouldnāt catch me upside down. After training with them, weāre doing wall walks. That says... a lot... lol
Lakin coaches in the early mornings, so I havenāt made it to her class yet, but I got to know her during the Blackwolf Open. Sheās kind and welcoming, just like every other coach at this gym. If youāre an early bird, youāre in great hands with her.
And finally, Ben, is the heart of Blackwolf. As the owner, he sets the tone for everything. His passion for CrossFit is clear, and his commitment to the community is what keeps this place thriving. He greets members by name, checks in often, and personally programs the workouts each week to push us physically and mentally. He even writes a weekly blog to recognize member milestones and accomplishments. When I hit a PR on my back squat, seeing it mentioned in the newsletter made me feel so proud. That kind of attention to detail makes Blackwolf feel more like a sports team than a gym. And Benās bold personality makes his classes unforgettable. Youāll know what I mean when you train with him. Just come ready to work! :)
Itās been about six months since I joined Blackwolf CrossFit. I came in feeling stuck and unmotivated. Now, I look forward to every workout, every laugh, and every bit of progress. Joining Blackwolf has been one of the best decisions Iāve made. This is more than just a gym. Itās a team, and weāre all getting stronger and glowing up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been a member of Black Wolf for almost one year now. All I can say is this- my decision to join Black Wolf after my one week trial has been one of the best decisions I have made in some time. The coaching is tremendous. The coaches know each and every one of us in the gym- strengths, weaknesses, areas for improvement, etc. They also know everyoneās name! They greet you as you walk in the gym, acknowledge your efforts during the workout, and make sure to send you parting words as you leave for the day. I have never felt so welcome. Another thing you will notice during your very first workout is that the coaches are very thorough in their explanation, instruction, and critique. They observe your form and function with a keen eye not only to challenge the athlete to push himself/herself, but also to insure that the work and movement is done safely. I never thought I would be able to do some of the things I can now do thanks to the attention to detail and direction by the coaching staff. In addition to the coaches, the fellow athletes are amazing. Whether you attend at 5am or 4:30pm, there is sure to be an incredible group of athletes that are truly there for one reason, to be better. In addition to being incredibly strong, the fellow athletes are also humble, encouraging, accommodating, welcoming, and motivating. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a member, and I intend to be a part of this community as long as I am...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBlack Wolf is a place for the long time dedicated and a place for the newbie just the same. Ben and Joel have created the most professional and personal blend of coaching in the entire city of Houston. Each is dedicated to helping you reach your full potential and they will bend over backwards to help as long as you commit to doing your part too!
I've been working out with Ben since 2012 and our community has been a positive influence on me from the beginning. From daily motivation during the WOD to support outside the gym, I couldn't ask for more (whether it is running a race, a weightlifting competition, a charity event, or just a life event, I have seen "the gym" consistently show up in full support of anyone out there being awesome)!
Of course, my positive words are a direct reflection of my love for the gym. In my first review of the gym 2 or 3 years ago, I pondered if everyone walking into the gym would have the same positive experience I have had over the years. Originally, I believed that, as with most things, "to each their own" and allowed for the possibility that some people might prefer other gyms. While this is still possible, I would like to modify the criteria. If you are willing to be accountable for yourself, cognizant/respectful of those around you and genuinely believe (or are looking for the belief) that you can always improve, you owe it to yourself to come check out Black Wolf, because you WILL NOT find a better...
