Shannon Walker Library & TechLink Services: A Hidden Gem for Entrepreneurs, Families, and Creators
As a life coach, career coach, keynote speaker, and business owner who hopes to one day grace big stages like Fox News, CNN conferences, and beyond, finding a cost-effective space that supports my work and allows me to bring my family has been a challenge—until I discovered the Shannon Walker Library in Houston, Texas. Even though it’s an hour away from my home, I gladly make the drive several times a month because this recently remodeled library is simply a game changer. Here’s why:
The Amazing Staff The staff here is nothing short of phenomenal. Special shout-out to Kenneth, who has become like family! If you’re looking to learn the ropes of TechLink or create some stellar content, Kenneth is your guy. He’s been there from the start and helped me navigate everything. Tyler, from another TechLink location, also provided support after we were redirected to Shannon Walker Library due to hurricane-related outages. Their professionalism and willingness to help are top-notch.
TechLink Services & Studio Access My absolute favorite part of this library is the tech they offer. Their video studio is like something you’d find in a professional news studio, equipped with 4K cameras, Apple computers, and even a soundproof room—perfect for shooting high-quality videos. And guess what? All of this is available for free! The only requirement is registering for a Houston library card, which opens the door to all these incredible resources.
Podcast Room If you’re considering starting a podcast or, like me, frequently guest-host, you will love the podcast room! Equipped with four cameras, it’s the perfect spot to record high-quality podcast episodes. While you do need to attend a workshop to get familiar with the equipment (since we’re talking about thousands of dollars worth of gear), after that, everything is free for you to use. It’s been a game changer in my business and personal branding efforts.
A Resource for Business Owners & Creators As a business owner, I needed a way to create videos, courses, and presentations without breaking the bank. The Shannon Walker Library has given me the tools to do just that, allowing me to create professional-grade videos and content for my clients. Plus, being able to shoot high-quality video presentations has been crucial for securing keynote speaking opportunities. It’s a must for any business owner looking to scale without massive overhead.
A Family-Friendly Experience Beyond business, this library has been a haven for my family. From taking family pictures to helping my children learn vital tech skills for their future, it’s been a bonding and educational experience. If you’re looking to save money on family portraits, their equipment is excellent, and the best part—you can see the results immediately. Just remember to bring your own SD cards and external drive to store your files, as nothing is saved on their computers.
Bonus: Easy parking, breathtaking studio spaces, and a truly inspiring atmosphere.

Read moreMore of a hang out place than a library. After atleast 5 times of doing the same thing, my daughter sitting in the same spot using the computer up front since the kids section always seems to be a kids play place, we were told to move since my daughters playing on computer was attracting 2 other little girls to look at her screen. (I get that) so I do let him know the reason and the man assures us if things get too rowdy at the kids section they would address. We sat in the kids section for all of 10 min to see and hear the screaming the running on the hill and even a couple of kids playing tag in between the book shelves. But they weren't monitoring the area the same way they were after the computers right up front. And so we leave and we grab the books we had on hold, but of course, as we're walking out we see another kid in the same spot where my daughter was moved from. It would be nice if they didn't just pick and choose when to follow rules. I said this on another platform too but I can't wait for the hype of the "new library " to die down so that these parents that take their kids to the library for "play time" can find a new place. -from a regular library goer who's daughter was just playing quietly on the computer upfront to be away from the...
Read moreThis library branch is a huge disappointment. The building looks like an ugly, metal garage. The parking lot is inadequate; there are large swaths of wasted space and sad landscaping with unshaded metal benches, and the entrances are inconveniently placed. The interior layout is also terrible. The Information desk is positioned awkwardly creating a weird bottle-neck area. The book return is placed by the unused street entrance, rather than the main parking lot entrance. The majority of the space looks like a 90’s internet café. The adult book collection is quite small and there is no section for newly released books or audio books on disc. The DVDs are all in one area, and the adult DVD get mixed in with the children’s DVDs. The Children’s section contains a paltry selection of books—it is mostly an indoor playground, and it gets very loud. This is not a library that you can wander through and discover a new wonderful book to read. If you are looking for a specific title, you will most certainly have to put it on hold to be sent from another branch. The purpose of this library seems to be as a free workspace for adults and an indoor playground for kids. It is not a place that...
