Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a great metropark and it is truly a wonderful + pleasent walk on black pavement to th edge of Lake Erie.
There is a grassy and muddy path, that you can take on the left, located near the gate and entrance to the park. This shrouded walk bends through the treeline and eventually leads back to the main pathway.
Be sure to enjoy the partially shaded walk, that has a picturesque wood cabin and a convenient portable restroom available if needed.
It is nearly 0.6 miles to the lake and there are many critters and squirrels at your feet, who are trained to eat the food that park visitors freqently drop.
There have been a lot of moderatley rare birds being sighted here, such as cardinals and bluejays. Occasionally you'll witness many slightly aggresive male geese on the trail and wading in the sun lit pools of still water.
Sawmill Creek golf course is easily spotted on the right of the trail, where you'll probably see people golfing.
You will have to cross a swampy marsh, on a wooden bridge of veneer, to reach the beach. Which has a wondeful view of the light house, and a wooden bench to pause and reflect or to rest; that is facing the easily accessible and murky water.
Near the end of the trail on the right, there is additional beach access by stepping up on cobble stone through the green shrubery and into the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuch a peaceful trail. The asphalt trail is super wide. Mostly shaded. There is a porta-potty half way down. The Preserve also has a short prairie trail to the left and a wooded trail to the right upon entering. Lots of water birds and other birds. You can tell the wildlife are fed because chipmunks and squirrels come right up to you. Birds perch within feet of you and donāt seem to be scared. This is good for photo opportunities. At the end there is a boardwalk to the beach. If water levels are low you can walk beach clear to lighthouse by cedar point road. I love coming to this trail. Also, this is a TRUE birding trail. I have photographed a few dozen different birds on this path. HOWEVER, mostly spring and late fall during migration.
If in this area you MUST MUST go here. Asphalt path it down and back, approximately mile down and mile back. After a rain wear bug spray as it does go straight through a marsh Beautiful Nature Preserve and trail A lot of people have commented about the no pets. Reason for this, wildlife is too friendly bc someone feeds them (even though signs posted everywhere to NOT FEED WILDLIFE) lol, and they donāt want dogs attacking overly friendly wildlife. It is dogs normal nature to do this so they avoid it by saying no pets. I hope that clears up why I think no pets...
