I actually liked seeing the house! That was the best part of my trip to Chicago since I couldn't see The Bean due to construction. I wished we could've gone inside, but it's probably city property by now and a major liability if someone gets hurt inside. We stayed at an AirBnB that was 4 minutes away from the manor, and it was a large house similar to a mansion. I imagine Al Capone's Manor was similar in size. It was long and tall. But, the house is in astounding condition on the outside given its age. You can see it in my few pictures. The brick wasn't faded or crumbling at all. I think the city should look into making it a tourist attraction. I know Capone was a criminal, and the city would probably rather not have crime tied to its legacy, but he is a major figure in American history and pop culture. If there's a way to renew it to Capone's time and have pictures of him or his time with The Outfit, it would make a CRAZY scavenger hunt spot! Especially if you get local artists to make figures of him and/or house visitors. Even if you got just those hanging banners or tapestries with information about him, that's an easy $15 a visit attraction. If you tie that location with Capone's movements to get to know him, the experience becomes more immersive, too. There are ways to make the house an attractive spot beyond just a historic site. It just takes some doing. I just don't know if the city would be willing to do it. I definitely would check it out again some day, though. If you're in to mafia history, I would think about going on a scavenger hunt and see these places for yourselves. My main regret was not being able to see the street where Capone's brothel was and the street where the...
Read moreThe reviews from tourists on this place are hilarious. "Not the best area" nah....really captain obvious? You may not be exactly on the worst streets of the south side, but you are most certainly in the worst part of Chicago. Who doesn't know south Chicago is a notoriously bad area? Then, you have people complaining the owner didn't give them a tour? Really?? He is not a tour guide....why would he? You are lucky he didn't end you for coming up that close to his property in an area like that. People do not take kindly in that area to strangers walking close to their home for very good reason. Do your research of the area before you come. You are in an extremely bad area here. Very bad. Not far from the worst streets of the Southside. You better...
