Was told by the tech people at the UI Hawkshop to go here to get my Airpods fixed/replaced since they were under warranty, so I did. I told the one totally unfriendly, sort of clueless-seeming employee I gave them to when I went in that both Airpods were not staying charged, but that the left Airpod seemed a bit worse than the right one, and he said they would probably just replace both of them, and they'd probably be ready in about a week for me to come pick up. The next day some other employee named Jake calls me and tells me they already got a replacement in for me, but it's only for the right Airpod. I told him what I told the employee before and that I don't think that will fix the issue to just get a new right one, especially since the left one is the worse one. He tells me to come in and test it out just for procedural purposes, and then they will order me the left one since they can only order one at a time under some policy that I was not informed of the previous day. I go in twenty minutes later, talk to another employee, this was an older woman-- have no idea where Jake from on the phone is-- and I tell her what Jake just told me on the phone, and she says real dismissively that they can't order me another one, that I will just have to go into an actual Apple store for further repairs...
I don't understand why I was told three different things from three different employees about the policies, procedures, etc. for getting these fixed all in the span of a day. And I didn't even get them fixed. I guess I will just have to wait until I can go to an actual Apple store, which there isn't one near Iowa City. Closest is in Des Moines. At least I didn't have to pay... but yeah don't waste your time going to Technology Associates. They're unfriendly and definitely don't know what they're talking about when it comes to...
Read moreI had issues with my MacBook Pro after downloading the new Apple Sierra update. I stopped by Best Buy on Saturday to ask if they were an Authorized Apple repair location. The associate informed me that they were not, and they advised me to go to Technology Associates or this private person because that's whom they send their Mac repairs to anyway (which I believe it may have cost me even more). I couldn't locate the private person's information, but Technology Associates came up on Google right away and had several great reviews.
I called in and spoke with Gary. Right away, he suggested some possible causes and resolutions to me. I dropped off my computer in the morning and by afternoon, they called me and let me know my computer was repaired.
Service was awesome, and Gary was great to work with. He was very knowledgeable and was able to figure out the problems quickly. The customer service was excellent. As for the repair fees, I believed it was very reasonable. They charged me a $60 labor repair fee (I believe this was the base fee), and they did suggest a new battery was needed, but I opted out at the time because it was $160 that I couldn't pay.
To be honest, if you go to any other places to get something fixed like your car, you'll know the base fee, but you won't know the final fees until they find issues. I'm not sure why several others said the charges aren't reasonable/fair.
I highly recommend Technology Associates if you need a fix on your MacBook. They are located between Hilton Garden Inn and the Encounter Cafe. Convenient location near downtown. There are meter parking out front and two parking ramps near by (Old Capitol Mall parking and Court Street...

I should have expected this for a third party repair store. However, Apple technician made a appointment at this place for me, which makes me think this place is legit. My MacBook cannot startup properly because it have a intel based core and I did not factory reset in correct way. All they need to do just erase everything and reset.
They charge you $60 ONLY for diagnose. In apple store, the technician will do it in front of you for free. All the works are done by machine. And they’ve done it for me before. Then a day later, they emailed me a new bill for how much hours they worked on it. They Didn’t mention it at all about this. Yeah, it’s a common sense that people will charge for hourly payment for repairing. But the guy did not mention a word for the rates. Isn’t that should be a common sense you should mention all kinds of cost rather than wait to being asked? In the invoice, there is also no such details. Also, the apple technician told me for fixing a software issue usually is free and wouldn’t be expensive. But I ends up paying them $100 Just for a little software problem.
I also asked the guy who fix my computer how he did it. That guy just refused to tell me and keep talking nonsense. He said my system(2016 MacBook Pro)is too old, the apple store would not even diagnose for me. And then he ends up pulling my records in apple store and sees my repair before. Cringe!
Just try to find more places, don’t think they are...
