Zolly’s Grill — Restaurant in Iowa City

We stopped into Zolly’s kind of on a whim. When we came in it was pretty quiet, just a couple people eating, so we figured it’d be a quick stop. Not long after we ordered, the place filled up fast, so it’s clearly a local favorite.

The guy at the counter who took our order was really personable and easy to talk to. He didn’t rush us and seemed like he actually cared about making sure we got what we wanted. That stood out to me right away. The inside of the place has a nice, comfortable feel — nothing over the top, just a good, clean spot with a cool layout and some nice décor.

The food did take a little while to come out, but given how busy it got right after we ordered, I can’t really complain. Once we got everything, it was more than worth the wait. I ordered the double gyro burger with fries, and my girlfriend got the catfish and fries. We also shared an order of cheese curds. Everything was hot, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The gyro burger had a ton of flavor and the mix of gyro meat and burger was spot on. The catfish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and you could tell it hadn’t just been sitting under a heat lamp.

Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere all hit the mark. It’s the kind of place you can tell puts care into what they do. Definitely a 5/5 experience for us, and we’ll for sure be...

I was in town with a couple of friends and we found this place through a Google search. It was easy to find a d with a parking garage close by, very simple to park and walk to. The place is small and gives off a "greasy diner" vibe but don't let that scare you. The workers are extremely nice and eager to help you. There wasn't a line or a wait when we went so the staff were quick to greet us and take our order. They answered our questions and after we were done eating asked how everything was. They serve some interesting options here, mostly burgers, gyros, and other handheld options with some fries. I got a gyro cheeseburger and it was very good. The combination sounded interesting enough for me to try and I am glad I did. The burger comes with a load of toppings and the portion was big. I made my a meal, which comes with fries and a drink for around $17 a deal in my book since I walked away full. My friends got a double cheeseburger and a Philly steak sandwich. Stumbled across this gem today while searching for something different than the standard franchised stuff. After reading and seeing some reviews, we figured we’d give it a shot. I’m so glad we did. The food was fantastic! I am NOT a fan of crinkle cut fries- they’re just not good to me. BUT! This place had me taking home the rest of my large portion of fires to finish. They are crispy and done perfectly. I ordered a gyro (no onions or jalapeños) and it was delicious. I tend to make my own because it’s hard to find good ones but this place HAS the good ones! It was big and made well. My husband had the Italian beef with hot gardiniara peppers and was pleasantly surprised that it was good, also another hard to find made right food. I also ordered 2 pepperoni pizza puffs to go for my son, who dug in and said it was really good- he’s hard to impress ;) Needless to say, it was a great experience, the food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable for the size of the meals.
