This was a nice surprise to stumble across while traveling through Ironwood,MI. Not enough *advertising that THIS even exists. Compared to: Crazy Horse memorial OR Dignity: of Earth & Sky sculpture. Really no comparison in the way the two listed above is broadcasted. HIAWATHA NEEDS to be added to the NATIVE American MUST see monuments/ statues!!! THIS IS THE TALLEST INDIAN! Built in 1960’s. I have already shared THIS find with family & friends. Just to see THIS history, it’s worth it!!!

The statue has been there since I was a kid (I believe it went up in 1964). There's a small park with recently updated playground equipment, benches and picnic tables. I heard there are plans to put some plaques up giving the history of the statue and information on Hiawatha as well as the local indigenous people (I really hope they do).

Impressive how big it is. It does look to be in a bit of disrepair, not severally, but getting to the point of needing a little touch up. There was no specific story of the statue, just a small sign, but no info other than name. There is also information about mining in the area as it is in miners park.

It's very impressive when you see it in person and see what a large scale that actually is and think about the artist or artist who made it and all the work that went into it , also see ing the mining train car is pretty impressive too and it's pretty cool that you're able to see a bit of history in person and best of all it's free and you can see it 24/7 and rain or shine or sweet...

It's a statue. Although almost next to it, there is mining equipment & history to read about the mines. Take the time to read everything & then walk to the gravel road away from the signs. That road will take you to more level ground so you can walk into the woods to look at where the tower once stood on the cement blocks which are...
