Pretty long wait on my first visit ever to this restaurant.. I had to wait 24 minutes to get my food and then it was messed up when I got it. I was absolutely specific about popping my yoke and getting them thoroughly done on my eggs. When I got them there was liquid in the yokes. Not the waitresses fault, most likely, but I hate when I was super specific and they still mess it up. They don't understand what "over well or "over hard" means. First time I've been to this restaurant... nice atmosphere and decent prices but I had to wait more than 10 minutes to get the eggs redone and sent back to me. Maybe a new cook or maybe they're short-handed but the ratings reflect my experience.
Had a second visit on September 10th 2024. Took my pastor friend from Hurley there to eat. Janice was our waitress and what a privilege it was to have a five-star visit with her. She was very polite had a wonderful smile and positive energy about her. I had breakfast again as I love my breakfast. Was specific about having my eggs thoroughly done and Janice communicated to the Cook very well and I enjoyed my meal. More than the eggs though it was some little conversations that Janice had with my pastor friend and I. Definitely we both left feeling valued as customers and as people in general. Hopefully others will try this Little gem of a restaurant.
Another visit today , September 15th, 2024, between two church services. Arrived at 8:59 a.m. and order was taken at about 9:07 a.m.. a bit long but it was busy so I give them a pass on that. But what I can't understand is poor attitude that I've experienced again today but much worse than last Sunday. Different waitress but the same two waitresses from last week. I got exactly the same thing to eat...two eggs and coffee, and wanted to make sure my eggs were cooked right. Remember I am the customer! Because of the trouble I had with eggs last Sunday, I asked kindly up front and very clearly that my eggs would have the yolks broken and they be browned on both sides as I was getting fried eggs. That's a very reasonable request. But instead I got a response that more or less said, "we don't have time for all of those requests or specifics". I've never been to a restaurant where they didn't write down specific things on the order slip so that the food was cooked to order. I noticed that all the orders were typed into a computer-like cash register and not written down on a guest check. Maybe that's part of the problem that they either can't or don't want to take the time to type those directions in to the cash register order machine. And I imagine that it does get very busy and maybe they're short-handed and should hire another waitress especially for Sundays. But the bottom line is we are the customers and we have a right to have the food cooked as we want it cooked... there's nothing unreasonable about that. So instead of arguing with the customer, take their order and process it with a big smile and with love. Because I didn't want to create a big scene I let the waitress take my order and then I called over one of the clean up people whose name was Todd and he was wonderful. He was very approachable and listened well. And I told him that I had trouble the previous week and just didn't want any trouble and wanted to have a relaxing breakfast. I asked him if he could go back and relay the message to the Cook about popping the yolks on my fried eggs and browning them and he said he would be glad to do that. When it was time to pay, the same waitress took my money and I had about 15 cents change coming and was going to tip her on the counter but she basically dropped/threw the coins on the counter even without looking at me and didn't say thank you or anything like that. That was just uncalled for and very rude and I said nothing and left and took her tip with me. I will never be back on a Sunday and I will never allow that waitress to ever take my order if she is there when I come in again...
Read moreI had visited many times during the years I lived in Ironwood. After the restaurant was sold, it was hit or miss with the food. I heard it had been sold again, and was in town and decided to stop in. I ordered my usual - country fried steak, american fries, eggs over medium, sourdough toast, & please add extra gravy. My friend ordered the skillet with rye toast, eggs over easy. The order takes a long time to come out. Eggs were sunny side up, with whites still runny, and yellows were moving around in the undercooked whites 🤮🤮, I was given unbuttered rye toast, no extra gravy (of which the gravy I was given was very watery & tasted bland), and literally 10 little chunks of potatoes for my american fries. My friend's skillet was swimming in gravy. I asked for the right toast, the extra gravy, and for the eggs to be redone. I was brought the correct toast, was told I was given extra gravy (which must have been a mix up and my friend got the extra, not me), and was asked to slide the eggs off my plate to another plate so they could be further cooked. At the end of my meal, the eggs were brought back, yellows were broken, and the eggs were hard all the way through, crispy, done obviously on purpose. I did not eat them, complained they still werent cooked correctly, but my meal was already eaten while it was warm, so it didnt matter, I guess. There was no discount offered, and the waitress asked what I would like done about it. I said ream the cook & let them know what over medium means, & what sourdough toast looks like. We paid our complete bill and left. We will never go back there. The steak was very small and looked to be cut in half. The gravy was watery and bland - not like sausage country gravy should be. The eggs? Well who knows - I never got to try them as they were served raw & when "fixed" and brought back out, my meal was finished, they were cooked very hard & inedible still. The skillet was okay, but too much gravy for my friend, and it was cold. I kept having to wait on coffee refills in the tiny little cup they gave me, and they werent even busy. We were the only ones there for 20 to 30 minutes, and then 3 separate couples came in at different times, 1 with 2 kids. I dont understand why my seemed so hard.
Its probably better to go to Pine or Mike's. Or just save your money and make...
Read moreWe were driving thru Ironwood and began a search for a late breakfast place… There was an old school restaurant that happened to be closed on the day we were driving through so we tried another local eatery… they did not serve breakfast and it was incredibly dirty inside but luckily the lady working there suggested Uptown Cafe… it was incredibly good food and service and exceeded my expectations by a mile… everything was cooked perfectly and had lots of taste. The coffee isn’t fancy but it’s better than Folgers. Very clean inside, very kind wait staff and delicious food… would definitely eat here again! Also many...
