It's a good place to drop in a kayak or canoe but getting to the launch isn't exactly easy. Terrain is a bit rough and washed out from the parking lot to the trail and it can get a bit muddy after a good rain. There is a small walking trail there as well that is nice but the area is swampy so mosquitoes can be an issue during warmer months. The parking lot is gated but I'm not sure if and when it's closed. Also, there's many snakes, gators, turtles and birds that call this area home so leave them be and be sure pick up trash and discarded fishing lines.

Well it's official...the New River still has some good fishing. We went out this morning for the first time since hurricane Florence. Saw the nice lady who takes care of this place of beauty. She said we were the first to go out. I caught a nice Bass and a Cropie and husband caught a nice Bass and a mudfish. If you notice you can see where the water hight went to on the brush and tree's along sides of the River. Felt great to be there!

My girlfriend and I bring the dogs out here all the time to walk on the trails we have a great time with them in the outdoors... We came down here with fishing poles on a Saturday and spent some time on the water enjoying the fun of catching fish...

If launching a kayak be sure to bring your wheels. It is a decent walk from the parking lot to the launch. The dock is nice and has a kayak ramp.

I would imagine the water here is mostly fresh and would be a good creek type fishing environment. The launch is at the end of the creek so it is a bit swampy.

This park closes at sunset and they do...
