This is the woods where my home is located. I live a block from the entry, and I feel somewhat proprietary. I am constantly disappointed with the poor maintenance and protection of the woods, and I am disappointed in the visitors and the forest preserve. People litter and walk or drive on plants. I have seen groups of kids set trees on fire. The beautiful river that hosts wildlife is full of bottles, cans, paper and even diapers. I am not blaming the forest preserve police. I do not think there are enough of them. I think the rules that protect this land need to be clearer and more prioritized. I also think that weekend nights need stronger protection. This land has potential but is not being...

Such a wonderful place to catch a break from the busy rhythms of the city. Easy to find, plenty of parking, picnic area, paved and unpaved paths where you can feel closer to nature or do off road biking. Lots of wildlife. The grounds are impeccably maintained. The paved path crossed over a bridge and with planes flying overhead, in and out of O’Hare while Amtrak and Metra trains zoom and out of town via tracks that run on the outer edges to the forest preserve. People here seem very chill too, walking their dogs, biking and spending time with family. Seeing a few elderly couples made me notice that there weren’t too many rest stops/benches but that’s perhaps the only missing...

I've been going here for 20 years. My friends and I as teens would have bonfires all the time undetected. We went recklessly though. We always put it out before leaving. Anyways...I'm not happy about the bike path running straight through the woods now. I can imagine how many trees died for it. I hope they planted new ones for every one they killed or maybe even did some transplants. Anyways. ... one of the old paths down to the river is still there so im happy about that. Its nice to just go and take a long walk or just sit by the river and relax. I'ts a nice little spot with a pavillion and port o potty for having get togethers. So yeah. I definitely...

Pleasant place to take a walk. You can follow the paved path or the unpaved paths through the woods and along the river. It's not unusual to see deer, a variety of birds, and little critters like squirrels and chipmunks. It's best to stay on the right while walking so as not to impede the cyclists. Great place to take pics of nature. There is almost always plenty of parking. Walk for a mile or for ten. The path connects all the way up to Skokie lagoons. Happy hiking!

Never got bored here even after walking around for four hours. If you bring some friends I'm sure you can stay here the whole day. I brought next to nothing, boots, sunscreen, water and a sandwich. There are plenty of trails to follow, and a small but diverse variety of land formations. Lots of steep hills though, a few were covered in rocks and roots so beware of those lol
