Came here with my newly issued title, bill of sales, ID, and proof of insurance to do one thing - get new plates and registration. It took me 3 visits over 5 days to accomplish this! Ridiculous!
Just realize the MO of this place is to send you away - even if you have all the paperwork….which I did the 1st,2nd, and 3rd visit.
Saturdays are bad for them….and don’t come on Mondays(per them) and when I showed up Tuesday at 4:30….that was inconvenient cause they close in a hour. Unbelievable!
Kept saying I needed “this form” & “that form” (I didn’t)….then “oh, this Title is bad”…call this number…gave me the wrong number/disconnected. Today, “oh our mistake. Your title isn’t bad. Not sure why the system said that. Whoops!” All of the guidance was wrong & when I questioned it, the workers (not managers) would say “WE KNOW. WE ARE THE STATE” ….and yet they were wrong every step of the way.
Before my 3rd visit in 5 days, I called the Secretary of State hotline for help & explaining what’s going on. The Sec of State said this whole process was pathetic. I should not be visiting the DMV 3x in 5 days for something as simple as registration & plates. When I reiterated what the DMV told me - the Sec of State was appalled. Said none of what they said made any sense.

They just kept me 4 hours to renew ID! 2 times one employee had to fill the documents and run 100 times to ask her manager questions and than another employee took over and had to call Springfield twice and than gave me hard time with documents I had. I went to the bank to get all additional docs they needed and than he had to filled the application a multiple times due to making mistake. Than they gave me a temporary paper DL/ID and said wait for the plastic to be mailed to you. 2 moths later -NOTHING! I went their again to ask why my plastic DL wasn’t delivered yet and they said they don’t have my documents and that paper temporary DL was just an extension for 90 days and you won’t get a plastic which is a PURE ABSURD! And now I have to take all my documents again and go through that “bureaucratic hell” again with employees that are have no clue why and what they are doing at DMV! Read moreI was able to book my appointment the night before around 10:30pm and got a 7:40am slot on Saturday. When I arrived, there were two lines (senior and appointment), and the staff were approachable in directing people to the right one. Have your appointment confirmation ready so staff can verify quickly.
Once inside, they asked for my phone number and the reason for my visit. I was renewing my license, so the process was straightforward. I did notice some people being turned away because they only had photocopies of required documents (like a birth certificate) — originals are required.
After check-in, I waited in line for my picture. Staff were helpful in making sure the photo looked good. Then I was called to a counter to verify my information (name, birthday, address) and vision test before paying. I received a temporary license, and the permanent one will arrive in 2–3 weeks.
