The Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center offers a unique blend of natural history exhibits, outdoor trails, and hands-on activities, making it an enjoyable destination for families with children. Among the park's highlights are the well-maintained restrooms and the informative mineral museum. The restrooms are conveniently located and feature individual stalls, which are especially appreciated by families with young ones. The mineral museum showcases a diverse collection of rocks and minerals, providing an opportunity for kids to learn about these fascinating natural wonders.
However, there are a few areas where the park could improve. Some of the animal fossils displayed in the museum are not naturally formed but rather replicas. Adding clear signage to indicate which exhibits are reconstructions would enhance the educational value of the displays. Additionally, the gift shop features a variety of reptile-themed items, such as snakes, lizards, and chameleons. However, the overall selection of souvenirs lacks a strong connection to the park's unique offerings.
The Dinosaur Trail, a short path connecting the Aloe Garden and the Cactus Garden, offers a glimpse into the prehistoric world with dinosaur sculptures. While the surrounding plant life is quite diverse, the dinosaur sculptures themselves appear somewhat outdated and in need of maintenance. Some of the fiberglass structures have visible cracks and imperfections. The park's iconic iron elephant statue, often visible from the freeway, is unfortunately inaccessible to individual visitors and only available for group tours.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center remains a worthwhile destination for families residing in the Riverside area. With its admission fee of $10 and a typical visit duration of around two hours, the park provides an enriching and educational experience for kids and adults alike. The park also features numerous Scout troop projects, such as a herb and spice garden, which could benefit from enhanced upkeep and clearer signage.
Overall, the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center offers a blend of educational fun and outdoor exploration, making it a suitable choice for families seeking a unique and...
Read moreFirst time visitor here. Park was good but the older man named Wess had a very condescending attitude. Not once but three times chewing you out for where you can't go like he is scolding a 9 yr old. I would've left almost as soon as I had arrived but I didnt want to ruin it for my stepson. It's pretty bad when the kid asks you why the old man was so rude to us instead of just telling us nicely. I was far too stunned and nice and didnt stand up for myself at the time or take time to report him. Maybe he is a volunteer or even in charge? Either way it is unbecoming and unnacceptabIe for someone representing the facility. I don't understand why some people have to give attitude instead of politely explaining. Especially when no visible signs or gates blocked off the area and I had already corrected my mistake once I realized it BEFORE he even confronted me and I was appologetic. Maybe he had just had a bad day? Hopefully this isn't typical behavior of their staff member. Maybe a map at the entrance, more signs, gating off restricted paths and a map handout would be helpful showing the accessble areas and the paid guided tour info. The website stated 10 dinosaur exhibits and certain areas were free of charge but I found most were not granted without a paying guide. The interactive diaplay inside the museam was not working but the rest of it was very informative and well displayed with cool fossils and minerals. The young guys and gals doing school field trip guides and working around in and around the center seemed very cheery and helpful. What I saw of the garden area and nurserey was very impressive, the variety and prices. I know they are undergoing some renovations so maybe things will improve. I'm willing to give it another chance and not let the rudeness of one person ruin the experience of the...
Read moreWe have got a recommendation to this museum from our school and it's free. So we went there with our kids today. We were all excited at the beginning. We noticed there are a crowded of people traveling to the huge dinosaurs area so we followed. Suddenly, there was an old rude security guy driving his golf cart and came to us saying this was a PAID area and we had to leave NOW. So I said sorry about that and we were trying to leave. And explained that there were crowded of people upstairs and we went there together. So he said, " there were bunch of people who jump off the cliff, would u like to join?” I was speechless and full of anger with this super super rude unprofessional security guide. I immediately out my baby back on stroller and he was standing behind trying to keep pressure on us. God knows this is a pay area?.There is no sign for the "payment request" at all. I would respect you if you have put a sign on it. Your museum attracted us to come for free parking and free entrance . We didn't expect that there is a partial area for fee requested. If you would like to earn a living as you said in this area, why wouldnt you collect entrance fee at the beginning like other museum do? I feel like a trap to come and this rude security guy had made our day!!!Bad experience ever!!!
Great, we were planning to have a birthday party here and now I would just spread to everyone not to come for party here. Waste of time driving here and thank god...
