My kids and I love zoos, and have visited several within the last few years. Our favorite is the Kansas City Zoo, with our least favorite to date being the Topeka Zoo. This zoo measured up nearly to our KC Zoo standards, which is a giant compliment. Most of the animals seem very well cared for, the layout is spread out enough to allow for good traffic flow without spacing exhibits too far apart, the rest areas, benches, and concessions are well-placed and family-friendly, and the designs of both buildings and landscaping are aesthetically pleasing. My favorite feature, which is something Kansas City doesn't do as well, is the layout which allows for most exhibits to be viewed from multiple angles. So if an animal is, for instance, turned with its head facing away, often a zoo guest can walk around the paths until they can see the animal from another perspective.
My middle child was very glad they had so many wild cats to see, and both my kids were thrilled with the Dipping Dots selection. My youngest was grateful for so many benches to sit on.
When we first arrived, we realized we'd forgotten sunscreen. So I bought a tube in the gift shop. I spent more than I've ever spent on sunscreen ($16.99 for a small tube), and it was terrible. My kids hated the smell and the way it didn't soak into our skin.
We were excited to see the bears, although only one was visible when we went. Overall, a beautiful zoo with much to see and a good value for the money. Recommended!
