The reason I give two stars is due the fact the condition of the beach and not the whole park itself. The pavilions for parties are great, the parking was good, the amount of space for everyone was great, the resturant looked good. The two stars come from the state of the beach shore which had nothing to do with the people on shore. The amount of dead seaweed made a huge impression on me. That's not normal. It was mountains of seaweed on what looked like high tide and on low tide there was more mountains of seaweed. the shore line water looked brownish color and had seaweed. the seaweed draged up to the sand bar, and for miles bothside of me the shore line was full of these mountains of seaweed. You can smell the decomposing seaweed. Advice to all nothing can live in dead seaweed. But it vibrant color seaweed and decomposing seaweed equals sea-lice and other critters. It's really not anyone at the beaches fault just overfishing of our shore lines destroying ecosystems causing the fish that do eat seaweed not to exist making a massive abundance of the sea plant. It made the beach for us unpleasant and baked in the sun with no relief. It's a sign that the ocean is dying unfortunately. And the oceans current dragging seaweed up wards from the Caribbean. One more than the other a definite factor in the issue. It broke my heart cause it should have never come to this. I wish I could've taken a picture but I was running after my toddler so we both wouldn't get into...
Read moreI almost don't want to share how amazing of a park this is, because I fear reviews like mine will make it packed in the future. But WOW. This park was nearly empty both times I visited, has a beautiful beach with chairs (that are technically for rent but everyone just uses them anyway), and beautiful sunsets. Parking is $5 and that is the only fee you pay to use this park (other than having to take the toll road to make it into Biscayne). Please be mindful of what time it is- The first time I came, I stayed through the sunset and discovered that my parked car was now stuck at the lot due to a security gate getting locked right at 6:30pm. This is my only reason for removing one star. While I was able to get out thanks to a security guard, you might not be so lucky. But truly such a gem in the city. The park has park rangers who are also really friendly and helpful.
There is also a little hut by the beach where you can buy food and alcohol. Sadly the owners/managers of it do not take masks seriously, and my food order was also completely forgotten about after I had already been waiting 30 minutes for them to make it. I do not encourage buying anything from this establishment until they make some serious changes. But please do not let that change your opinion of the...
