IF YOU ARE IN JERSEY, DON'T MISS THIS !!!! This hike is often considered one of the top 10 hikes in new jersey. Overall 5 star hike for the 180 degree views of the Delaware river, Mount Minsi and the scenic Christopher columbus Highway ( Freeway 80) . I took the red dot and blue dot trail totalling about 5.4 miles(trail map is in the pics). This Hike is categorized as moderate to strenuous for anyone who wants to challenge himself/herself with intense cardio workout. Depending on your skills level, It could take anywhere from 3 hours to 5 hours to cover this entire loop . The trail is heavily trafficked in weekends and during covid masks are recommended. Red dot trail is very very scenic and there are atleast a dozen view points to Mount Minsi and the river. But, be extra careful as the this trail becomes pretty steep and requires stone scrambling at times. Blue trail on the other side is not that scenic but it has its own charm and I equally enjoyed coming down on this. Taking away one star as parking is not easy, all the parking lots are filled by 9:30 am (you heard it right :-) However, park rangers are doing great job and directing the traffic to park close to visitor center. Parking is FREE btw. All the volunteers here are amazing and are super helpful.
Few things to remember -# 1 it's a pet friendly hike , so bring your dogs but leash them to respect fellow hikers. #2 it's a heavily trafficked hike on weekends and on very sunny days , it gets really hot. So, Stay hydrated .#3 there is no restroom , not even (jhonny on the spot ) -so lighten yourself before heading to this hike. Spoiler alert: Blue dot trail has a waterfall and we have seen people having fun in the water. So much to do there that I am more inclined to do just blue trail thoroughly next time. Good luck folks and...
Read moreMy first trek to Mt Tammany and it was a fun trek. The mountain is popular and a lot of people are on it, but everyone moves at a good pace. It is not an easy trek and includes a few spots of steep climbing, but over all a really nice trail. When we got to the top the over look was not very obvious and we had to look for it. The overlook is wide and can accommodate a lot of people. We took the blue trail down which meets up with the Dunnfield creek. The creek is fun to wade in. It has a few fall and deep spots to jump or swim in. The water was really really COLD. Perhaps if we ended our trek at the brook by midday it would perhaps be more bearable, but with cooling temperatures and the brr cold water, getting in takes...
Read moreBrutal hike but worth it!! I don't care what level of fitness you're at its a hard climb!! Very Very rocky and uphill. Regular hikers will easily make it but if ur not an avid hiker, u will struggle. Wear good hiking boots or shoes.. if ur a beginner, I suggest u gym up first as u won't make it. But in the end its worth it. The views at the top are spectacular! Avoid weekends.. gets too crowded. I went at 6am Saturday and there were loads of people already. Going up use the red dot trail. It's shorter but painfully hard. Coming down used the blue dot trail. It's easier but longer. Don't forget to stop on the luscious waterfall on the blue dot trail. It's magnificent! Wonderful experience and will come...
