Boddy House — Attraction in La Cañada Flintridge

The former residence of the original owner of the land of Descanso Gardens. Not what I expected to see for an old restored and maintained garden house tour. Maybe I’m naive, thinking back to the grandparents home filled with beautiful plants and flowers. After meandering thru the garden below and climbing up the hill to the house, I came with expectations of potted plants, terrariums and window boxes. What I got was abstract art, as if to continue the few colorful random pieces along the trails below, tho so much more! Then seeing the children perk up as they entered the home had me take notice! Yes it was unexpected and different, tho an enjoyable alternative for the kids, as well as the art loving grown-up’s! Helpful attendants were present to help guide the visitors. Nonetheless, the air conditioned comfort and restrooms offered a welcome rest stop for garden hikers...

Fancy dinner with Occidental College graduates, students, professors, and alumni donors. I am from one of the four generations in my family to go to Oxy and this was so wonderful to rub elbows with many Tigers. Cultured intelligent helpful loving humans and I felt like I was family. The people working at the Boddy house were wonderful and kind. Professional all the way. Strongly recommend it for any large group of good humans. And close to home so was great taking my 87 year old mom. Makes me feel hope...
