After reading so many positive reviews I was hopeful about visiting the swimming area with my family while on vacation in Island Heights. It was extremely disappointing. First of all, there were geese everywhere- in the water and on the small beach. It immediately made me concerned for the cleanliness of the water. The water itself was a strange red color, and had a metallic smell that the lifeguard couldn’t explain. The actual area you were allowed to swim in was very small and you were right up against others. Right next to the swimming area was a broken down home with goats lying on a trampoline. Two people broke out in a fight while we were there and the police were called. Thankfully our kids were blissfully oblivious but the whole experience was disconcerting at best and “trashy” at worst, for lack of a better word. Read moreIf you're a photographer this is a nice hidden gem. Lots of animal life and great sunset shots. As of now they're repairing some bulkhead and pavement. And they have to redo the Pavillion, it seems to have collapsed!!
