We camped here because of a concert at Red Rocks. 7/6 to 7/10. I like how conveniently close we are to the venue, gas station, Walmart. And all the amenities they have are great, BUT there was a few things that my group didn’t like. And some of this could have easily been said on their website but they don’t disclose all of this info until you’re there finding out the hard way lol No tents/canopies allowed on the grass! You have to be in the gravel. The showers have a bill to quarter machine but it’s $1 only. So break down your bills ahead of time! The bundles of firewood are cheaper than store bought ($5) but two of our bundles wouldn’t burn. I think the wood was too old it just kept charring the outside and smoking. There’s also no trees or anything for shade so I highly recommend a canopy. The lake that you can swim in is fairly small because it’s just one section the rest is for watercraft. The deepest part was about 5ft. There’s also not a lot of shaded areas at the lake so get there early or bring your own. Also as far as we know you have to drive from the campsite to the lake so keep that in mind. It’s like a 2min drive. If there is a trail we just didn’t realize lol! I also wish the camp host introduced himself when he first made his rounds or they posted where the host stays so we can easily ask for wood/get change. We had to wait for the second day to see him ride around in his cart to get wood for the first time. Overall I like the campground and it’s great for concerts at Red Rocks. And when I do come back I will be more prepared for the small inconveniences of this time. Hopefully my review helps others who haven’t been...
Read moreDO NOT RENT A SHELTER FOR A PARTY HERE! Your guests won't be able to attend because they won't be able to get into the park when it is closed due to capacity issues which pretty much happens every weekend in the summer.
We scheduled our daughters graduation party here and was assured by the entrance staff that guests would be able to get in even if the park reached capacity, they just had to let the rangers know that they are there for a scheduled party. Around the time our party started, we received many phone calls and messages from guests who said they would not let them into the park even after they told them they were there for a scheduled party. We went and spoke to the entrance staff and the rangers regarding this issue many times to no avail.
At least half of the attendees could not get into the party to celebrate with us although they tried many times through out the day.
I was denied a refund for the shelter rental when I asked after the fact and couldn't even get a phone call back from a manager. Their denial email stated that there wasn't anything wrong with the way they handled entrance that day and that I must not have understood the instructions on how our guests were to gain entrance. No apology or even we will look into making this better for future guests.
Bear Creek Lake Park should not be renting picnic shelters for events if they cannot figure out a way for guests to be able to get to the event.
Plan your party elsewhere, we cannot get another shot at our graduation party
Update After the initial review, another staff member reached out with an apology and I am supposed to be receiving a refund for...
Read moreNot quite ready for tent camping with a toddler, we rented a cabin here for a couple of nights to dip our toes into the water (literally and metaphorically). We searched high and low for photos of the cabin to know what to expect but came up dry, so here they are! The cabins have two bunk beds in them, two "big" full or twin size bunks on the bottoms, and two "small" single beds on the top. All mattresses are wrapped in plastic. PLENTY of outlets in every corner, and a handy ledge under the back window. Both windows open, but on a 90°+ day, they weren't enough to keep it cool (highly recommend a fan for hot days). The spigot is right across the street, shared with the other two cabins. The site has crushed gravel to stick a pop up tent for shade. Patio is in good shape with a bench that you can move. The door locks with a number pad from the outside. There is no deadbolt, chain, or way to keep the door locked on the inside (which means your toddler or clever dog might have a way out). The door does swing IN, so it would have to be a very clever dog that can push the lever down and pull the door open. It's a lever style doorknob. The door was no challenge for our two year old from the inside.
Camp host was GREAT and super friendly. Creek under a quarter mile away. Well kept outhouse a short walk away. Perfect for first camp trip with a kiddo, we'll be back.
If you'd like a more private site, it looks like the yurts are the way to go, but I'm not sure they've got the spigot access. Everywhere else is...
