Bear Creek Lake was a great spot to camp and see the surrounding area. The sites are large, fairly level, and gravel. There isn’t a ton of vegetation between sites, but there is grass, and they leave most of the greenery intact around the park while still leaving areas to walk a dog. There is a fair amount of spacing between sites, and we really enjoyed the privacy after a few weeks spent in commercial parks. Sites are electric only (some are 30amp, others 50amp, & their booking website makes that clear), and while there are drinking water spigots around, there is an RV fill station and a separate dump station. We arrived on a Sunday and couldn’t believe the crowds around the lake, the full archery area, or all the cyclists, so while the CG is set in the back of the park, it allows access to all the great park features while keeping the CG away from it all and quite serene. The camp hosts are kind, helpful, and keep the place looking pristine. While they don’t offer WiFi, our Verizon service was excellent without the booster. The CG also offers bathrooms and coin op showers, but we didn’t use either. While I see some people have complained about noise, we had no issues (yes the occasional engine from the nearby drag strip or car speeding down the highway but nothing constant), and we slept with our windows open every night. I also see complaints about the visible Home Depot, and again, to us this is silly…. Yes, you can see the Home Depot, but it’s also far enough away, I didn’t register it after seeing it the first day. Needless to say, we don’t share either of these concerns. We used their spigots to fill our drinking jugs, and their water definitely has a bit of an off taste (we’d bring our own next time), and we experienced a number of low-voltage errors during our stay. $35 a night for electric-only is on the pricier side for us, but for the area, it’s pretty reasonable. This is a really nice and well cared for CG in a peaceful setting with lots of outdoor activities, and we will...
Read moreSomewhat of primitive campground, compared to say full hook up park. There is electric and they do have 50amp, but no water hook up. There is water on site. It can get Very Hot here, there are trees but not in campground area so be aware of that. The park itself is Huge so showers, water spicket, etc many will want to drive to as the walk can be bit much in heat for elderly etc. The showers are coin operated, nothing fancy but not bad. Water pressure decent. To me, because I'm disabled/elderly, This park would be a Favorite of mine in the Fall and Winter months. There's lots of bird watching that could be done here, Robin's, Magpies, and I'm sure more. There's a lake, and a swim beach. Saw swimming and kids and tents Plus they have horses, not sure bout costs or riding etc and there's an archery area. For summer I give it a 3star, but for Fall/Winter a four. Reason is, no shade over tables and it's seriously way too hot with no tall trees. Least they could do is awnings over tables. My other suggestion, a bench outside showers since there only two, so folks esp elderly can sit down while they wait. ...
Read moreSeemed like a fun place to camp that I didn’t have time to fully enjoy. Clean and quiet. There is no shade or privacy (trees) in the campground. Bring your own shade structures. Showers are spacious, clean, and warm. They are $1 in quarters for 5 min. There’s a change machine on the other side of the building from the showers… For some reason the visitor center didn’t offer this info when we were hunting for change, they told us to drive into Morrison to use an atm? Lol S/o the ranger who helped us figure it out. I’d suggest maybe a sign to let (dumb) folks (like me) know the change machine is on the other side of the building. I can’t be the only one… (right?) The main entrance gate closes at 10pm. It is right off a main highway, so this offers a sense of safety. The after hours entrance was difficult to find after being directed to leave a certain direction from red rocks lot and losing my marbles at tipper. You won’t have that problem tho bc he’s...
