In the heart of La Salle, Illinois, we found more than just a resting place for the night; we discovered a community that embraces the RV lifestyle in ways that left a lasting impression. Our stay at a local quilting store, nestled in the backlot, was part of the Harvest Hosts program, a brilliant partnership between small businesses and RVers. The owners were welcoming, their store brimming with warmth and charm, making us feel like more than just travelers passing through.
Through Harvest Hosts, businesses like this one open their doors to self-contained RVers, offering a spot for the night, and in return, we have the joy of supporting their livelihoods. It’s a simple, effective system, connecting over 5,678 small businesses with a passionate community of wanderers like us. This quilting store went above and beyond, and our stay was not just restful but enriched by the local craft and the friendly faces we encountered.
La Salle and its neighboring town, Peru, are gems in their own right. The people were as inviting as the landscapes that stretch across the Illinois River Valley. Walmart in Peru provided a spacious overnight spot in their outer lot, allowing fellow RVers like us to recharge before continuing our journey. The historic I&M Canal, the very backbone that connected Chicago to the Illinois River, adds a layer of history to these towns, offering a glimpse into the past with trails and museums that beckon explorers.
This area embodies the spirit of small-town hospitality, where convenience, history, and community come together. For any RV traveler making their way through Illinois, we highly recommend a stop in La Salle and Peru, not just for the beautiful scenery but for the people who make the experience worthwhile.
The quilting store and these friendly towns will remain a memorable chapter in our Stray Compass Life, and we look forward to sharing more such stories from the road.

Read moreI started writing this yesterday after having a less than pleasant and unsatisfying series of conversations with 2 employees about an online order in which I was told my Passport discount would not be honored. I am being told more than once (different months) that something listed on the website in the category for the month doesn't qualify. I understand Lisa needs to make a profit but this is misleading and doesn't encourage me to want to support the local store. I will certainly think twice before I sign up for any other clubs or subscriptions, or even order online from QITV. Update: my order arrived today and one of the items received was incorrect. When I called the store, I spoke to another employee, Valerie. She went out of her way to assist me and apologize for all the issues even though she was not involved in any of it up to that point. Her kindness made me rethink my review. Lisa, hang on to her. She...
Read moreLearning to quilt was always on my bucket list. I took my very first class when Lisa and Quilting In the Valley had opened in their first location. Since that first class I have become hooked on everything that is quilting! Lisa and her staff have always been helpful, patient and generous with their time. The amount of confidence I have gained in my skills over the past 15+ years is all due to their expertise and willingness to spend one-one time with each customer. I love the classes that QITV offers. The classes are so fun and full of laughter. I have made so many new friends in the classes.
The entire staff at QITV are exceptional and highly experienced. Not only are they kind, but they truly give you the time and input you need to assure your project is the best it can be. I highly recommend supporting this female owned business that excels in positive...
