The one children's librarian is probably the best thing about this library. She is SO sweet and kind. However, I really hate everything else about this library. As others have said, there are the rudest front desk staff. What do librarians do on computers all day that is so important that they can't be bothered by you? I saw one of them watching something on Youtube so that is definitely not working. I also feel SO uncomfortable bringing my child in the children's area. It actually feels oppressive. I mean, it's a children's area - you really can't expect children to whisper. I love, love the cedar park libary and highly recommend going there instead. Once you get into the children's area, there are a ton of awesome toys and it is naturally loud when you get in there. Why the forced quiet in the Leander library? There is just this totally oppressive air with rules that don't make sense, and acting like our children are not supposed to be there doing things that kids do - have fun, and have a normal volume of speaking voice. They also close off the biggest room, which should really house the computers. I can't tell you how often a screaming baby/toddler is dragged away from wanting to get onto the computers (including my own), when they can easily be in the room with a door on it for older kids. I bring my child into the library to read books and play with toys, not to have just another screen to fight over. I honestly have so many complaints. Just go to Cedar Park. Nice and helpful librarians, actually kid-friendly, better kids...
Read moreWhile I love the way the library is set up, how nice the children's section librarians are, the classes they offer, and the fact that you can put books on hold that are not currently checked out, I have had several rather unsatisfactory experiences with the people at the front desk (particularly one of them who has a very superior, condescending air about her - young with long light brown hair and little to no makeup). Every time I ask her a question (note: I am NOT rude EVER) she gives a quick "I can't be bothered help you or be polite" answer and has even turned her back and talked about me to the other librarian with accompanying eye rolls. There is also an older lady with black hair that isn't overly helpful or friendly, either. I've asked her about the classes offered (and the younger lady, too) and their answers are "it's on the website to look up." Really?? All I was asking for was general information so I understood a little of what the class was about. My experiences with Cedar Park and other local libraries have always been so positive - they were always friendly, helpful, kind, personable, and willing to tell me all about the classes and events. With the exception of the children's librarians, I have never been treated with friendliness or an attitude that shows helpfulness. I pay taxes toward this library - and a lot of them - and I feel like the people who are working at the Leander Library should be there for the community and willing to help, as well as friendly instead of cold...
