I have been going to this park for about 27 years, and it has always been a clean and safe place. I recently went on October 22nd and 23rd, and found the views stunning. There is ample camping space, divided with landscaping (like vine maples) for privacy, each with at least its own firepit, sturdy picnic table, and level ground for tents. Many spots have water hookups for RVs. There are several bathrooms which are well-maintained with heat and full plumbing, including showers and plenty of stalls. Normally the camp store (which contains essentials such as firewood, sunscreen, bug spray and snacks) is open, but as it was the off-season it was closed.
The beach itself is kept clean: though there were only 5 other campers there and it was the off-season, I saw the park staff walking along the beach to pick up what little trash there was. There is ample wildlife (I saw at least one bald eagle, a kestrel, some types of loon-like ducks and chipmunks). There is so little light pollution you can see millions of stars and the milky way.
It is virtually free of traffic noise - the exception is that there is a lightly-trafficked road near the far end of the southern campground - allowing for lots of natural ambience. Picnic tables are sturdy and plentiful, along with several pieces of driftwood logs. There is a boat launch on one side, separated enough from the swimming area so as not to bother beachgoers or put swimmers at risk. Overall an amazing park and a wonderful choice for any camper, beachgoer, photographer or casual...
Read moreMy wife and I took a spontaneous trip over there from the desert part of WA, it was incredible! We’ve caught ourselves repeating how grateful we are we did! We had a spacious campsite, the last one available actually! With a super convenient trail to the lake! We found even more luck when we ventured down to the shore on the South side, we were able to rent a double kayak for an hour for a generous price - they let you explore out to the island even! We enjoyed fresh ice cream afterwards at the cute little snack shack there and the best experience thanks to the owner & crew! Definitely coming back, next time we may try the horseback trails! Bonus: close gas station and Leavenworth were huge perks of this area! No fires allowed but, we survived with...
