Gillman Home Center — Attraction in Lebanon

I have to give props to this amazing “people who get stuff done store”!

I have a lovely LV bag that I absolutely adore. I picked her up on one of my travels and the bag has sentimental value as well as it’s an all around stunning handbag. Well, I haven’t been able to carry it because a small screw that holds on of the handles came lose and went missing. Tragic, I know.

LV will fix the bag but you have to send it in and it can take months. I’m not doing that.

So with tiny screw driver in hand I went to Gilman Home Center here in Lebanon.

There was a very nice older gentleman up front whom greeted me as soon as I walked in and asked how he could be of service.

I sheepishly showed him my bag and asked about what I described as a tiny screw thing. He knew exactly what I needed. He not once dismissed me or my request. He never once spoke down to me or acted as if my need wasn’t important to me. ( I AM WELL AWEAR ITS A 1st WORLD PROBLEM)

He was kind and professional and beyond helpful. He even told me how his wife loved her bags too and spoke of her “collection.”

The entire purchase was under a dollar and he and the paint department guy assisted in fixing the bag good as new before I left the store.

I know it wasn’t life threatening and could be seen as petty by many. However these hero’s in jeans made me and my need at the time feel important. They validated me as an individual as as a customer.

So if I have a large or small home improvement need I will come back. I will Refer others with large projects to them. I will share how awesome they were.

Ten minutes of their time was all it took, and a few turns of a mini screw driver and I left the store beyond grateful and satisfied. Thanks guys.

I wish I could give them a better rating because I love small local businesses, however, their prices are ridiculous and they're unfortunately located about half a mile from Menards who is obviously much better priced with a much better selection. I could overlook all this if the service was great but again it was disappointing, showing a lack of knowledge or caring. If you can't compete with the big stores you have to make up for it in some other manner, but they fail to do so. Hopefully they can improve upon some of these points.

Edit: I've raised this to three stars in reflection of the ownership team responding in a respectful and helpful manner. I was unaware of the price matching policy, and hope more people come to be made aware. The poor treatment I received from the one team member was unfortunate, but hopefully will be...
