I was a big fan of Gordito's, which previously ran the kitchen here, so there were big shoes to fill. The quick review is that you should definitely stop in for the nachos, and hopefully with time the rest of the menu improves.
Let's start with the good. The nachos. A half order is $15 and would make a great lunch or snack for two people. A full order is $25 and is literally a cafeteria tray packed with nachos. My wife and I thought we could tackle it for dinner and it was just too much for the two of us. If there is a value pick on the menu, this is it.
The tacos are better than ok, but this is a counter service kitchen striving for artisanry, and it just misses the mark. There is certainly more variety than Gordito's offered, but the flavors aren't quite there. I think the biggest issue is timing. It's a two person kitchen with a wide menu. By the time your order is ready, you see the text that it is available to pick up, and you get everything to your table to eat the taco that was fully prepared first has had too much time to cool down. This is a mechanics issue more than a recipe issue. For about the same price I think you would be better served just down the road at Salty Cowboy, or if you really want flavorful tacos head to Bakersfield on Mass Ave. All that said, I'm glad to have these tacos close by, and I'll continue to enjoy them.
Another minor gripe is the ordering system. Each table has a QR code where you should be able to pull up the menu and place an order. Unfortunately, in our experience this system has never worked, so the only option is to walk up to the kiosk at the window and key in your order there. This line gets long fast, so you'll be waiting to place your order at the self checkout, then waiting to retrieve your order, then bussing your own table. I'm sure this keeps costs low, but when coupled with luke warm food it leads to an overall middling experience.
We'll keep coming in and supporting Taco Alibi, and I hope you will to. Give them a chance with the nachos which are genuinely...
Read moreThe atmosphere was awesome, but it's not associated with Taco Alibi. At first, the reviews looked decent, and the pictures looked good. Convinced the wife to give it a shot, and boy, oh boy, were we wrong. To start, wanted the special (al pacers, and the reggie) was unable to add it (on the tablet you order from) and couldn't get any help from the 2 kids playing on their phones in the kitchen. Finally got my food ordered. Wait, it wasn't awful, but we were literally the only customers. We ordered the nachos, a few miscellaneous tacos, and the street corn. At first appearance, the nachos looked great, the tacos mid, and the corn looked less than desirable (not on the cob, in a dish). I attempted to pick up my tacos, and the corn tortillas broke in half and dumped the contents all over my tray, I ended up eating them with a fork. I moved onto the corn, and I didn't realize that it was going to be a blackened sweet corn/pepper mix. I'd say a 60/40 ratio. Got about 2 bites in and realized that was the whole dish, a pepper/corn mix. The nachos actually surprised me. They were the only thing that didn't make me angry, and for the size, it's actually a pretty good deal. As far as going off other reviews, those people clearly haven't left the county in a decade. Luckily, the nachos saved the trip, at least enough where I'll try it again...
Read moreThe food was so good! 1 week later and craving to go back. We ordered and decided to have a bowl and nachos as a meal to share. Our food came out and we couldn’t stop laughing at how big the nachos were! SO BIG AND SO TASTY.
The nachos - had so many goodies in them. The chips were not soggy and able to dip all the yumminess. Even the chips under the top layer had plenty of toppings to enjoy. The bowl - we decided to take it home since the nachos filled us up. We split it for lunch the next day and OMG so good even as leftovers. And PLENTY of food there to share. Carrying it home from Taco Alibi I felt how heavy the to go box was. The atmosphere - this was my second time and Marks first time at four fingers. It’s different than your normal restaurant, but the atmosphere and area is great. Can order from your phone or the kiosk.
Oh - and 100% kid friendly. We went sure if my super picky kid would like it. But there are great kids options on the menu too!
Taco Alibi - we are so excited to have you in Lebanon!...
