It closes too early for anybody to visit grave after work. Seems like at least one day a week it could stay open till 7 or dark. That is inconvenient, but today a nasty red hair female security guard locked the gate 15 min early and snapped nastily at me, refusing me to go in at all, didnt get to go by Mommas grave and be done before 5, like i easily wouldve. The hours say : access till 5pm but she denied access and screamed at me they ALWAYS LOCK GATE AT 445. That guard should work another place where greiving people dont ever talk to her. Before today everybody was kind i ever encountered and i have gone in At 455 to leave at 5 lots of times. I dont want people to have to stay late due to me. I HAD A NICE YOUNG MAN LET ME IN ONE DAY when i was late by bike, AT 5 AND SAY TAKE MY TIME. I rushed but appreciated...

My family and I visited this lovely historic cemetery this weekend to see the final resting places of some of Lexington's famous figures. It's a quiet, peaceful spot with many shady old-growth trees and a lot of nicely paved thoroughfares for driving or walking. We were impressed by how well the grounds were kept considering that the area is so large. The grass was nicely mown without clippings obscuring the tombstones. Some graves had live flowers planted around them. There were many beautifully sculpted monuments to admire, with several dating back to at least the early 1800s. Whether you are seeking a tranquil spot for a bit of solace or just a tombstone tourist, this is a cemetery not...

I went to Lexington Cemetary to visit beloved actor Jim Varney's grave and pay my respects to his legacy and for being a big part of my childhood, and I have to say his head stone is one of the most awe striking I've seen, with the masks of a Smile and Frown complemented by the black marble material and "Varney" writen in large letters. On our way out I was amazed at how beautiful the grounds are, grass is kept at the perfect height, ponds have fountains spewing water, stone benches line the banks, it was serene, peaceful and quiet, it was perfectly closed off from the surrounding city.

We were in Lexington this past weekend for a concert and drove past a cemetery about a mile from our downtown hotel. The next morning as we were leaving town, we decided to spend a little time going through the cemetery. It was the last weekend in October so it was absolutely beautiful. Such rich history and includes the tombs of Henry Clay, the Todd family (Lincoln’s in-laws), and Coach Rupp of Kentucky basketball fame. It also had a national cemetery within its borders as well as an arboretum. If you love old cemeteries, this is a wonderful location to visit if you were in the Lexington area.

Lexington cemetery is really beautiful. They have signs on the edge of certain sections that tell you, you are at the grave of someone famous or very important to Kentucky history. Not all famous have those signs. The reason I kept it from 5 stars is the speed limit. 20 mph is way too fast in a cemetery. Speed limit should be around 10, maybe 15. 20 is too fast and people walk around the cemetery with their pets and people don't slow down when passing another vehicle. Can't tell you how many times I encounter an unsafe vehicle at the cemetery during my visit.
