I've been frequenting this café for several months now and today, I was so impressed, I must share my experience.
I've worked for a few coffee shops before so I know what to look for when I enter a café - a clean environment, earnest aesthetic and quality product. If you want to test the overall quality of any coffee shop, order a small black drip coffee. If it is fresh and punctual, not bitter but semi-sweet, velvety as an astringent, then one can trust the rest of the products (lattes, teas, etc.). This was the first thing I did when I first visited and was not disappointed.
I normally order 4 to 5 drinks when I'm here because I typically spend 4 hours here if not more accomplishing tasks that I can't concentrate on at home. I always mix in a mineral water or kombucha to give them a break but please, always tip your bartenders (P.S. bring back the Topo Chico! Son mas mejor que San Pellegrino).
Every assembled drink I've ever had here is flawless and presented in reverence (excellent ceramics). The latte art is exquisite, the milk froth so fine; many tiny bubbles enveloping one's tongue, dancing about in a frenzy of pleasure. But today, I made an odd request, playing Devil's Advocate if you may :)
I ordered a double shot of espresso, for here, but extra creamy. The barista looked at me confused (which I admit, I wasn't sure how to order such an endeavor). The one operating the espresso machine seemed to understand the assignment. They looked at me, I looked at them, and I coordinated yes, the brown cream from the shot (crema). They explained how the crema is limited to the shot itself, and I said "Yes, the best shot you've ever pulled."
They smiled at the challenge and I left them to accomplish it. (NOTE: Always allow baristas to work their magic. If you stand there and stare them down until the drink is made, you will never have the best product. If you cage a bird, it will never sing as brightly as it would free on its own volition. No matter how long it takes for your drink. You want something amazing? Give them the time to make it, which I've seen them do so expeditiously).
When my drink was ready I approached it, in the sterling pink lowball glass that they have so eloquently chosen as their chalice maître. The crema was nearly a half-inch if not more. I gave the thumbs up and exclaimed how they "nailed it!" Upon taking it to my table and sampling it, my goodness, was an experience unto itself.
(A side note: an Italian friend of mine told me normally, only one shot is ordered, never a double. And it is taken immediately when it is hot, never mildly when sipped, according to mid-day experiences.)
I sipped the double shot that the barista had so carefully prepared, in three sips while it was still hot, and dios mio, the taste of the espresso bean was so carefully pronounced and accentuated, it was not bitter at all, but sweet as something that one could only taste in a lifetime of pursuit. The crema, so soft and smooth, the body, so defined and mild, if not almost like eating a cherry tomato; homegrown and sweet.
I sat there, my eyes closed, letting the sweet elixir sit on my tongue like a prized treasure from a different era, indeed, it was something I've never experienced before, at least not to this degree of quality. In three sips I let the meticulous potion sit on my tongue, allowing them to archive through my senses for further review.
This was undoubtedly, the best shot (double) of espresso I've ever had from anywhere.
I can't thank you all enough for what you do, and opening my palate to what I thought was impossible. I look forward to many more times of accomplishing the tasks that I...
Read moreThis place has such a cozy and trendy vibe. The atmosphere is great & there’s plenty of seating (tables & chairs along with sofas). I ordered an iced Miel with oat milk and it is seriously fantastic. My only complaint is that they only have 1 size (12 oz) which is a bummer because I could definitely consume about 30 oz of this delicious coffee. My husband ordered the cold brew & he’s really enjoying it. If you’ve read any of my other reviews then you’ll know that we make it a point to try different coffee shops across the US while we travel, so we know our coffee. The barista measured out the ingredients for the Miel, so you know that every time you go it will be deliciously consistent (such a problem at many coffee shops! Please, local coffee shops of America, stop eyeballing your drinks and measure. It ensures that your loyal customers get a great drink. Every time.) So glad Brevede has mastered this! I highly recommend and don’t think you’ll be disappointed in...
Read moreMy family and I visited today for the first time. We probably arrived on the busiest day (Saturday) of the week and time, so parking took an extra circle around the parking lot to find (not too bad).
The cafe's indoor seating was probably 70% full -- yet it didn't feel crowded because it's huge. The atmosphere was pleasant and a lot of UK students were on their laptops working away. We were 2nd in line and a minute or 2 later we had our order in. We ordered a vanilla latte, 2 hot chocolates, a drip coffee, and a strawberries with cream waffle.
We sat near the massive windows, enjoyed our drinks and waffle, and watched half a dozen trains pass back and forth.
The bakery has yet to open, so we are looking forward to that deliciousness as well (and probably a future gym membership...).
Check it out for yourself and support...
