I appreciate that Liberal has a youth center that is available to the families and citizens. I remember playing in the Kid's Inc. sports with my siblings over 4 decades ago. Sign up was at the rec center then, also. We even had our children participate in several youth sports and we participated in adult sports like volleyball. We made use of the old rec center in Blue Bonnet Park a couple of decades ago in more ways than just kids/adults organized sports. Playing games (board, electronic, and physical) with the kids after school both inside and outside of the rec center. I never recall paying to make use of the facility with my family. Thought that's what paying our taxes provided. (Maybe quartets in the arcade type games, but not to play basketball or the other games offered daily.) Why would the localy funded recreation center charge children to be able to play there? $2 to enter the basketball courts...? I stopped in the other day and I don't recall one smiling face on any staff member and I saw at least 4 or 5. Kids were watching a movie and those in charge didn't appear to be enjoying anything. I wasn't greeted with a smile or even greeted for that matter. I finally approached some one to ask where the water fountains were. I had made it clear down the entrance hall before making contact with any staff.
When fees are charged to enroll in sports such as basketball, soccer, and blast ball, why are the games not rescheduled if not able to be played per schedule? When there are only 4 or 5 games to begin with, and 1 or 2 are canceled, so much is lost in learning the game and sportsmanship as well as other skills provided by the actual interaction of the teammates and other teams. The fees aren't prorated or refunded for unplayed games or practices either. Coaches are volunteers and the practice areas are free for public use typically. Certainly one tee shirt...
Read moreWe came here to rent out one of the park buildings for a party and the ladies that were at the front desk were extremely rude and condescending. Not only is the staff rude but they also can't pay attention and will snap at you because they misheard something or couldn't bother to pay attention. While we were reserving the room the women at the front desk kept talking and gossiping amongst themselves right in front of us. The park building itself was fine although the bathrooms were dim and outdated, I also found a couple of dead moths. They charge a $400 deposit that you will lose if you don't clean good enough, and if you accidentally leave something in the building they will charge you $75 to get it back. Overall the park building itself was decent but the women working at the Liberal Recreation Center are terrible at their jobs, so I wouldn't...
Read moreI wanted to share my experience at the recent Trunk or Treat event. After waiting over an hour in line with my family, I realized I had accidentally left our payment in the car. I politely asked if we could wait off to the side while my husband quickly retrieved the money, but we were told we’d have to return to the very end of the line.
We were not asking to enter for free—only for a brief moment to get the payment. Unfortunately, we decided to leave instead of starting over after such a long wait. It was disappointing, especially since we had purchased over $40 of candy for my oldest son to hand out at one of the stations and our little ones were looking forward to the event.
I understand rules are important, but I believe a bit of flexibility would have made a big difference for families in our situation. This is...
