The Little Pond Boardwalk Trail, located within the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, Connecticut, is a serene 1.2-mile loop featuring an elevated wooden walkway that guides visitors through wetlands and dense forests surrounding Little Pond. This trail offers an immersive experience in a rich wetland environment, providing opportunities to observe various waterfowl species and other wildlife.

Visitors often praise the trail’s tranquil atmosphere and scenic beauty. One hiker described it as “absolutely stunning,” highlighting the well-maintained paths and peaceful surroundings. Another noted the boardwalk’s unique charm, calling it “beautiful and quirky and uneven, but worth it.”

The trail is accessible year-round and is particularly captivating during the spring and fall migrations, as well as in early summer when wildflowers are in bloom. However, some visitors have mentioned that certain sections of the boardwalk can be uneven and slanted, so it’s advisable to watch your step, especially in areas without railings.

For those planning a visit, it’s recommended to arrive early or choose weekdays to avoid crowds, as the trail has gained popularity. Additionally, checking for trail updates on the White Memorial Conservation Center’s website or Facebook page is advisable to stay informed about any maintenance or closures.

This place is so serene!

The trail is a 1.2 mile loop; the elevated wooden walkway is built around a pond called "Little Pond". The views of the dense forest and wetland is picturesque. We saw birds and wildlife tracks. The trail also goes of over Bantam river in a couple of spots. There were plenty of parking on the gravel. The sign at the entrance states "White Memorial Boardwalk Parking". First you walk on a flat dirt path and take a right onto the boardwalk, which is marked black and white. There is a huge power line going through the wetland. Some of the boardwalk got narrow in certain spots. We were able to bring our baby stroller on; thankfully it was a jeep offroading one, because there were steps, rocks, and roots in certain areas. We did notice a handful of dog poop baggies on the ground; why would someone bag it and just leave it on the side of the trail? The expectation is to take only pictures and leave only footsteps. How can you pollute such beautiful grounds when you're using it also? Think people.....

Aside from that, I love the boardwalk concept. I wish I had this closer to me, I'd definitely be...

I’ve been coming here ever since I was a little kid, pretty much my whole life. It is a wonderful trail that is 2 miles in length and takes around 50 minutes to complete. Since it’s a circuit you don’t have to worry about getting lost, you will end up right where you started. However, if you want more exploration there are some side trails that run along the Moulthrop and Tannery brooks, one of which leads directly to the Litchfield greenway bike trail. The main boardwalk has amazing views of the Bantam river and of Little pond, it’s beautiful every time of year. The trail is also home to the biggest tree I have ever seen (pictured down below). Great place for photographers and...
