I went on Saturday the 11th of May 2024. I had gone at 3 pm and had to leave at 5:30p.m to take my sin yo band practice at a church in the city of Wilmington CA. After dropping him off I was going to relax with my puppy till I realized that I had my wife's truck keys because I had started a softball game with my daughter, nieces, and nephews and I had to get the softball equipment from her truck but I didn't give her the keys back. When I came back the front was locked so I proceeded to go through the exit and ask an employee in a van if I could go in and out to drop off the keys to my wife and daughter. Instead of giving me an answer the black guy started telling me that I was coming in through an exit to which I replied I apologize please let me in through the other side. He then rolled his eyes and left me talking to myself. This young man lacks compassion, customer service, and etiquette. Had the roles been reversed he would have claimed racism and other stuff. I honestly think this guy treated me like this because I'm Mexican and because I have a shaved head. I was nothing but polite to this guy for him to treat me like this. I'm a former Parks and Recs employee and I can tell you that none of the staff that I worked with would have done what this guy did. This new generation needs to practice what they preach. I would love to talk to someone with the city of Long Beach about this situation. I assure you that this would have not happened at any...
Read moreA while back, I visited the nature center twice and found it to be a great place for not just a nature walk, but a learning environment. Living in the city doesn't offer much in the way of nature but when you begin your walk it's as if you find yourself back in time. Seeing close up how it might have been walking thru jungles, before freeways, cookie cutter neighborhoods and the pollution took over. An escape for even a couple hours can clear the head and create a humbling experience.
**On a funny note (but not at the time) on one of my two visits, my husband and I along with 4 other guests found ourselves locked inside. How could that happen? We had already finished the nature walk and were in another area outside the gift shop walking around. When we approached the gate, it was locked. This was about 25yrs ago (prior cell phones) so we bagan screaming and considering the possibility we may have to climb over the fence. Finally were either seen or heard and rescued by a park employee who was as stunned as we were. It was still a gread day and I highly...
Read moreWe had a blast at the park it was $8 for parking but you can buy a parking pass for 65 and you're $8 you paid that day can go towards it if you show your receipt. But well worth it I had not been to the nature center before and it was a lot of fun and some Hands-On things that the kids could do and then we only did the quarter mile loop which was really easy and paved because we had smaller kids with us but they have a one mile and a 2 mile loop that I can't wait to go back to with the older kids. They have lots of signs and it was fun seeing different varieties of mushrooms and some turtles and I had never seen an elderberry tree before so that was fun! And if you go under the street you can go to the other side of the park and they have a pretty awesome playground over an area 3. We stayed until the Park closed down and the park ranger drove around telling people it's time to go. Great park of you have kids! I had been there a couple times before for picnics but finally...
