This is a lovely place to quickly get away if you know where it is. The path with the tall trees is rather short and leads to a landing with rocks and benches to sit on. There's a beautiful view. Parking is available on the street. There's a STEEEEP path to the right of commonwealth Ave, but I parked on North Commonwealth Avenue and walked up that, turned right on the paved path, and Cedar Grove was off the paved path on the right instead. It's just fine to wear tennis shoes. Don't make the same mistake and put it in your maps! It'll take you a 30 minute's walk away (to a closed off road). Just map to the tip of the mountain on North Commonwealth Avenue.

Cedar Grove is 0.8 miles and 225 feet above your starting point on Commonwealth Avenue, which is visible below. But if you do both Cedar Grove and Vista View Point it is a 2.3 miles round trip with 400 feet of elevation change. The best feature of CG is the beautiful tall lined trees with a cool view of the neighborhood below, the freeway and Griffith park. Similarly, when the sun hits the Grove's trees, it gives a forest kinda glow. CG has very limited benches and picnic tables. Overall, it's a good short trail and place to chill.

Great place to walk. The view from the top is phenomenal. The path is a little on the steeper side, but should be manageable by most people. Hiking/trail running shoes are recommended.

A nice wood chip path winds into to this small grove of actual cedar trees on a hill in the middle of L.A. It is shady but open enough to have good views of the city in several directions. If you continue walking back out of the grove, upward and then go left, the hiking path switches back and you can look down on the cedar grove and see how beautiful and unique it is in the Griffith...
