MIG WELDING CLASS. I took Bill's welding class and really appreciate his professionalism and demeanor as he taught the class. Calm approach for a hazardous activity. NOTE: THIS IS TAUGHT IN A WORKING SHOP AND IN AN INDUSTRIAL AREA. Bill was a great teacher since welding can be both dangerous and he took care and patience and poise as he taught a group of novices.
What to expect: The MIG welding class was in two parts: First Evening was an introduction himself and to our classmates - 4 students max - then to welding. Bill, our teacher, explained his own experiences learning welding, showed us the shop and then asked each of us our own welding experience. We ended with a video that explained how to MIG weld. If you are going to take the class, I highly recommend bringing a pad of paper to take notes.
Second evening was actual welding. There are four stations since he only teaches a max of 4 students at a time (major plus, IMHO). We used different helmets and used different equipment during this evening to familiarize ourselves with the different types of equipment available.
CONCLUSION: I was very impressed that Bill took to time to answer my questions on "what to practice on?" "what welder to purchase?" - even afterward in emails. He was no-nonsense and wanted the best outcome in learning for each student. I really appreciate his approach in teaching and learned a lot in just a...
Read moreGetting to work and learn from someone like Bill is always great. His excellent welding skills are matched by his teaching skills! I have been in the trades and construction since woodshop and sheet metal shop in junior high school (way before it was called middle school!). I have experience with soldering, brazing, arc welding and enough mig to make a mess( I’m more of a grinder than a welder). The idea of tig welding always seemed like the realm of the Illuminati to me. When I came across the gearheads website it looked interesting to me and decided to try out a class. Bill is a very positive teacher with a wealth of experience and knowledge, which he shares quite enthusiastically. He gives a good balance of theory and technical information as background, and gives good feedback and individual hands-on instruction. He shares more than enough practical information about getting set up if that’s what you’re looking for, or realistic recommendations for your next steps. I feel Bill gave me a good introduction, and got me ready to move forward with this challenging and...
Read moreI recently took a MIG welding class with Bill, and it was a fantastic experience. Bill's combination of kindness, humor, and extensive experience made the class enjoyable and enriching. Prior to the class, my knowledge of welding was limited, but in just five hours, Bill managed to teach me so much. His hands-on teaching style allowed me to practice the techniques right away, and he provided valuable tips and guidance throughout. Bill's passion for welding was evident, and he genuinely cared about our progress. His patience and encouragement created a positive learning environment that fueled our growth.
From feeling like a novice, I now feel excited and eager to take on welding projects and continue practicing. If you are looking to learn how to weld for person projects, work, or just for fun - I highly recommend taking this MIG welding...
